Bearing in mind what happend the last time was presented with a cross of his own...

I personally find the cross offensive - and feel that it symbolzies nothing more than the power of Rome, and its ability to crush all that stand in its way - sort of like a hood ornament or hunting trophy...

It's about time someone says something! Thanks.

I once had a student (a little girl) in my class who was really upset by looking at a very detailed crucifix around the volunteer's neck. She couldn't understand why the lady was wearing a 'naked man nailed to a stick'. It was very frightening, I admit.

Wow good question...ill try to answer as best as I can:

Firstly, the cross isnt actually anything to do with christianity..it was part of the Mesoteric faith, where they have a upturned sword as their emblem/symbol/sign. They also happened to have a figure that died and came back to life..but thats another story. This alone clearly shows how christianity took up the traditions and pagan influences of those around it, why and how is another matter...but you only have to wonder, who can christianity's heartland be in Italy of all places, where Jesus never visited and how can there be a pope when Jesus as far as I know, never apointed a pope..so where are these additions coming from?

Before going further to elaborate the above..look around us in the UK and USA in particular..why if were christians do we have so many historical and important buildings shaped as roman buildings...are we roman or not?

Anyway christianity was never a name given by christ to his followers either....remember he was jesus and upholding the 10 commandments and never did he say in the bible I am god or that pray to me, he said it is all from the 'father' so adding crossess or statues is wrong, when the jewish faith is what is closer to us (and islam)..so maybe we should wonder why we do things so differently?

The final point is this, the cross wasnt introduced into christianity till years and years and years later. Now the key to all this is simple...why and by who's authority are people adding things into the faith of Jesus and thus where did the cross come from? Did jesus say through me is salvation and so mean that follow me an dmy example...and pray to the father, as in the lord..so erm who authorised the cross?

Very good question and liked it since it made me think the above...like many I avoided questioning things out of fear of change and fear of the answers.

The truth is the same whether we believe it or not, however how can the truth be seen if all we do is add to it and forget us, this is and has been going with with Judaism (for jesus to have come down in the first place, to put the tribe of judah right) and also it seems with all the others before. Are italians really the tribe of Judah?

So if Jesus was hear would he like it ofcourse not, because thou shall not worship idols and thus having anything around ones neck that isnt from God or through god is a form of idol worshipping or can be led to that in the hands of ignorant people (remember, we may be civilised as far as we believe, but those in the rainforests may not be).

Personally people hold the bible and wear the cross without respect, some arent even believers and see it as a fashion accessory, so where is god now? (or maybe where are we?)

No the above is to make all think and ponder, to me the cross isnt right at all.

Hope this helps x

ps: just another thought...more people go to visit the pope and the vatican then they do jerusalem, why?

Also did Moses or any of the prophets of the old testament need a viceroy or intermediary to connect to God, and thus why do we need a Pope or a Queen as the upholder to a faith?

NO Crosses are not faith or an example of His love fully expressed in His Death to save us from Death with no way out.
I feel a book I read said it is like wearing the gun that was used to kill your best friend. I wear the cross sometimes as I was first baptised or on occasion. It is not a high sign that you are very religious. I feel he took a low punishment to choose to die on the cross at the hands of man. HE DID NOT HAVE TO DO IT but he humbled Himself and he did it and took on alll pain and suffering thinking of the future. He was already great and wonderful but in suffering he took on the stripes of pain and the sins of the world and all he ask you to do is repent and let go and surrender what left of your life is to JESUS seeking Him for forgiveness and comfort. It is a symbol of faith and support
It is not a game like the vampire movie sugesst if you are not Holy you will be wonderfully preserved and if you are evil the cross will burn your skin on touch. It depends on your relationship with Him not to swag or hold His image up as your devotion to him. It is going to take a long time and a lot to see Jesus not as a babe in a mainger or a healier teacher.
Durring the second comming He will be in judgement of the whole word. It is not a symbol not the real thing. It is not a bling item in a jewlery store. It is a status of belief and even in the sleep times that with a twist of the chain you cant just swing in cool. It means more than that.

Well, I am not sure...I think some people do it at a reminder of what He did for us. I have a lot of crosses and I am reminded of what He did and went through for us but I haven't bought the crosses for that reason. I have bought them because I think they are pretty.

The cross is actually more of a symbol of shame if you think about it. In the time of Christ I doubt that you would find many people wearing crosses (unless being crucified).

A more appropriate symbol to remind us of what Christ did for us would be an empty tomb. It's His rising that saved us. Anyone could die. My savior isn't still on the cross. How you would show that I'm not really sure. Actually, you show it by living it not by wearing jewelry.

By the way, to the comment made about "In God we trust", money is not the root of all evil. The love of money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10

I think Jesus is deep and more understanding than most humans. At least, how he's presented in the christain bible seems to suggest this. There are legitimate reasons for wearing a cross around ones neck. Reasons that do make sense when explained. It would be silly to think that those who do wear them are ignorant of how crosses were used in history. Okay, maybe some are ignorant on the details, but I think they pretty much know the jist...About one of the comments listed: The root of all evil is not said to be money itself. The LOVE of money is said to be the root of all evil.

I don't think it's offensive. It's just some sort of a reminder, so people never forget about that particular incident. Personally, putting a cross on or any sort of religious symbols is just a way for people to show what are they..what they believe in..and some say they're proud to be this or that..but I don't think a person should even care about that. You don't need to show us or anybody else on this Earth that you belong to this or that or do this or that...It's something ..between you and God.

When I started believing more in God and trying to live a better life, I wanted to wear something that would reinforce my thoughts when I needed it. I don't like crosses - it reminds me of the brutality done against Jesus and others. Also, I believe more in God than I do in Jesus, so a cross wasn't right for me. I bought an angel pendant. It's the perfect one for me, because I believe that angels are basically workers for God.
I think Jesus would be okay with anything that showed that people believe in him and God, whatever that symbolism may be.

I agree with you. The cross has nothing to do with Christianity. It celebrates the power of the enemies of Jesus, the Romans and the Jews. When he comes back, Jesus will make sure the cross is broken. He never taught his disciples to worship the cross or himsself for that matter. He was only a prophet, one of the greatest, and his message was "believe in God and be good"

thats a seriously good question, if i were crucified and came back to life about a thousand years later, and saw symbols of me dying on a cross i'd be extremely upset that they remember the pain and suffering i went through rather than the good and happiness i brought.

Roman Catholics wear it to remind them the suffering jesus went through for the sins that people of the world commited. But protestants wear just a cross to symbolise his rise from the dead. Or some other stupid reason.
