My cousin is a flight controller and safety coordnator for NASA. I asked him the same thing, about NASA, not politics. To start out, you need a BS in Physics or Mathematics. One of those is required for any job there.
As for politics, Start out running for something smaller, like Prez of the PTA or something, then move up.
