one of my landlady's employees went yesterday to get a kitten for my landlady's birthday on monday, and wanted to keep the kitten here at our apartment till monday. She had brought some dry food for the kitten, but it's adult dry food, and I'm not sure if she is eating very much or if even 9 week old kittens can eat dry food. Should I go out and buy some other food. I've never taken care of a kitten this young before.

If the kitty eats it then it's fine for a short time. Kitten food would be better because it contains more fat for growth. She should be able to eat dry just fine at this age. If she appears to have a problem with it try putting a bit of water on it to soften it up. Don't leave it down more than an hour wet though because it will sour. Canned food is 78% water by volume so you're better off feeding a good quality dry food. I like Iams personally. But like you said it's not your cat and is temporary. If you can afford it go to the store and buy some Iams kitten. It's in a purple bag and is sold in grocery stores these days. It's a premium food with chicken as the first ingredient. Hope this helps.

Its best if you offer the kitten canned food 3x a day and leave dry kitten chow down for the kitten to eat when ever it wants. Adult dry food has bigger pieces and its hard for a kitten to chew with its baby teeth, plus it does not have the proper nutriants that a kitten needs. No milk just fresh water avaible all the time also
