Social workers are perfect examples of people who are overworked and underpaid. They go to college for four or five years and wind up getting paid less than people who just walk in off the street and get jobs from call centers. Their caseloads are often way more than any human could ever possibly be expected to keep up with. So yes, unfortunately they do fail their clients because the system is in dire need of a makeover.

Ooh yes.the number of clients, ability of satisfying them ,the location of an offices are the major reasons. Most of the clients are not understand well the rules or major details of the nature of services provided by the social workers.Transport from to the near social office is also the cause.Economical back ground of the clients.Actually, failure caused by misunderstanding of obeying the rules governing the service rendered by the social workers.

I am convinced that most social workers are social workers because they have the "helping syndrome". What I mean is that they are scard and hurt people themselves from dysfunctional homes. I know of a couple practising alcoholic social workers, and they council drunks. There are a lot of emotionally hurt social workers that haven't dealt with their own past, and yet are trying to help others. I believe students wanting to study social work, should undergo psychological evaluations.

Social workers try the best they can.
It is a thankless job.
How many of their clients actually get BETTER and out of the dysfunctional patterns (long term)?? Not many.
When a social worker gets burned out or has a bad day and fails his or her client, I think it is forgivable. As humans, sometimes we're imperfect :)

I think the ones who work for the state carry caseloads that are too large. It's hard to check on people when you have 300 of them. Maybe they can get aides like nurses have in hospitals. I'm not sure what the aides duties would be though. It's a very thankless job for sure.

There are plenty of clients failing their social workers. Strikes me as a most demoralising profession - i have only praise for those who can do it.

Some of them are. Some people should not do certain jobs, because they are bad at it or bad examples.

i guess they aren't miracle workers. the same as doctors , nurses, dentists, in fact any job out there, mistakes can be made. we are all human. it all depends on our personal experiences with them.
