Here's why: She has several top 5 finishes in big events.
I, too, am waiting for the new to wear off of Michelle Wie. When asked about the rules infraction at the British she said, "So it's a good learning experience. But I'm only 16." What a moron. Ok, we all know that she is a teenager. Enough already!
She claims to be a professional golfer, but she doesn't even know all the rules. Concerning the rule book, Ms. Wie stated, "Well, they're not actually great reading material."
If she weren't such a child, she'd be a winner already.

All scores must be in accordance with success . If Michelle Wie exchange into seen the 2d maximum suitable participant on the LPGA some thing is robust fishy. evaluate that the excursion has been invaded by using the South Koreans and another tournament has been won by using a Kim some thing or a some thing Kim there's no way that one among ours has been ranked # 2.

But, she is a child! As you pointed out, Wie told us she is just 16!
I wrote a blog column about this last week. You can read it in the link below. Basically, the LPGA TOUR created a system that rewarded good play over a small amount of tournaments.
Oh wait, Wie only plays 8 times a year!
Look, she has played well in her opportunities, and that has given her enough points to be ranked second. But, in a ranking system similar to the PGA TOUR, she would never be ranked that high. But, they needed Wie to be in the top 5 for the rankings to get publicity.
By the way, the LPGA changed their ranking system this week. The upshot is that Wie will have to play more to stayed ranked high.

You have to be young, cute, and media worthy now. Look at all the publicity Creamer, Wie, Gulbis etc. get while veterans like Sorenstam, Webb, Pak get passed over by the media. Meg Mallon wins two majors in one year (US and Canadian opens) and can't even get a sponsor for her bag, while Wie gets sponsored and makes millions without winning. The young ones are getting publicity because of looks and "potential" and how much skin they show on the course. Blame this on the LPGA "these GIRLS rock" mentality. By coming up with the ridiculous Rolex rating system, the LPGA managed to put Creamer and Wie up at the top based on the past 15 tournaments at the time, not the past 30 or 40 like the men have. It was rigged to promote the young girls.
