my freeview goes black and white + wen connected through my dvd recorder?

its black and white and the picture is blurry but wen i just have it connected2my tv its colour+ picture is clear. why is this what have i done wrong what can i do to fix this? i would be very grateful

i have another freeview box which ive connected through the same dvd recorder and i never had any problems with that

That is their way of copy protecting themselves so you can not record, it would do the same thing through a VCR. Some Recorders will completely scramble the images while there are others that arent coded to do that at all....... not sure what the codes are called that you would look for. I have seen a few recorders on ebay that were billed as code free, Maybe that should be your next question :-)
