My husband was sent for a stress test to see if his heart is healthy. On Thursday, they did an ekg and several ultrasounds of his heart. They told him to come back on Monday for the actual stress test.

Why do all of these ultrasounds before the stress test? Does the ultrasounds already done show blockage in the arteries? Or will blocked arteries not show up until the stress test is performed?

i think they shoot dye in your veins, or they make you do the treadmill for awhile to see how your heart is.You need the utra sound to see blocked arteries also stress test to see how the heart beats under lots of stress and exercise.

well the Initial EKG is looking at the hearts electrical activity to make sure thee are no abnormalities.

the ultrasound looks at the anatomy of the heart and the arteries looking for blockages, or abnormal valves or anything else that is abnormal.

the stress test will look at your husbands blood pressure, heart rate, and EKG while running on a treadmill that will gradually incline adding stress on the heart, that way the physician can get a full picture of husbands overall cardiac health.

Take care

When a stress test is performed, they will put him on a treadmill and get him up to his target heart rate to examine the heart when it is actually working its hardest. The echocardiogram shows an enlarged heart, valve abnormalities, decreased blood flow, etc. A stress test is given as part of the series of diagnostic testing for routine cardiac care. Has he had shortness of breath or chest pain? If the answer is yes to either one, then they are taking every step to ensure that if he has a problem it will be diagnosed and corrected. Out of all the tests I had on my heart, the stress test was the only one that picked up what the exact problem was. It turned out to be a minor problem that is not dangerous to my health, but it was causing me to be short of breath sometimes. Good luck to you. Hope this helped.

Ultrasounds are very good at looking at blood flow through the heart and looking at the heart valves.

theyll add dye to the blood and be able to tell under stress how vulnerable he is to attack, they try to work the heart almost to the point of failure.
