In a world where it's so hard to trust people, this another blow.

Although I've been on the site myself since Tom created it as a teenager and careful, I would of dismissed the thought of it being dangerous until I read an article of a girl being raped and killed who would be my age currently :|

However after reading requests from 10 year olds to date on yahoo answers, this has to go out to the parents, friends and loved ones for those who know the most innocent, naive and vulnerable that use sites.

The net can be a great place put it has it's downsides with severe consequences.

This incident happened a year ago a young girl was raped and murdered by a man she met on myspace. There have been countless incidences with children being lured and raped in their home to identity theft to name the least. The scariest part of this is, she was my age, thought she knew better but fell into the palms of the creature she met. Take heed.

The more people know about this the better so they can protect their children as early as they can. I hope none of you have to be put through this.

I post these in relevant sections where people are most vulnerable. In different categories where people do post in the sections they are common too. Not everyone travels between sections as they are focused only on their interests, which vary. IE you would rarely find a 10 year old in the parenting section.

As for you seeing "myspace" I haven't used it for quite awhile and it has no picture. Thanks for your appalling taste in music and wise words.

This is very true. Children should be allowed to explore the "real" world and to know it's not all sugarcoated and hunky-dory. BUT, parents NEED to have a clue what the heck their kid is doing!

My mom and I were talking about this today - we see two kinds of parents (she's a college professor and I work for a pediatrician) these days - those that are overbearing and smothering and those who don't give a rat's *ss what their kid does. There seems to be no middle ground anymore.

When I was growing up - my parents knew what I was up to most of the time, but I took my lumps as any kid should. They didn't go running to sue the parents of the kid who kicked over my sand castle, and they knew where I was building my sand castle.

Sadly, there's not many parents like this anymore. I have a coworker who's all bent out of shape that her 14 year old has a myspace - but she won't say anything to him about it. WTF is that?!?

Nope. Simply placed: they are bugs. They're so small and primitive relative to us that "appreciate", like among the international round them, is going proper over their heads. Really, your common dog or kitten and even human toddler has WAY extra occurring in its head than your common insect does. Insects are practically tiny residing robots--they consume, molt, develop, consume a few extra, molt and develop a few extra, breed after which die. And at the same time there may be larval phases for a few and headaches for others, that is lovely solidly precise of all of them. They do the trade of lifestyles close to absolutely in a reflexive, mechanical method. And so much vertebrate lifestyles will get this: so much land vertebrates kill some thing bugs they run into (or consume them, as a few birds, amphibians and reptiles do). Flies and so forth in detailed have advanced to reproduce by way of the countless numbers simply to atone for that. There's a metaphor in right here someplace, approximately trolls in this web, I'm definite. Or no less than the bots[*]. Pun meant.

Amen, I totally agree. Luckilly my daughter isn't even old enough to know what a computer is yet! I heard a couple months ago on CNN that it was 2 girls who were raped and killed, unless I got my info wrong. The thing that makes me really angry about kids on the net is that parents let children have their own computers in their rooms! What in the world?? We will have ours either in the family room or office, and will monitor what sites our children are on.

Thank you for taking the time to share this will all of us. I've heard of many-many stories like this. It's so sad that the world is plagued with such sick individuals. I've warned by daughter of the evils of this world since she was a very little girl. Even with all of my intensely graphic warnings, she's still made some pretty dumb decisions ...and has gotten lucky to still be with us. Even when you warn your children, they don't always listen. The problem is that they honestly don't believe anything bad will ever happen to them....

I myself know of about a dozen teens/preteens who have myspace pages. It deeply concerns me as to how freely they "share themselves" on this site.

The pastor of our church is insistent that parents keep a close watch on the content of their children's pages and internet usage.

Thumbs up on this warning! You obviously have a caring heart!
