is it weird if at a party, a slow song comes on, and i ask a boy to dance with me? like, should i just let the guys ask me? or can i ask them?

well, guess what you guys!!! i asked two guys to dance, they both said yes...and everyone was okay with it. actually, more than okay, because some guys were just too chicken to ask me themselves, and were actually RELEIVED when i asked them!!!! so yeah, guys like to be asked too--sometimes the only reason they don't ask is because they're 1) too nervous/shy or 2) think you'll reject them.

When I was young, we had to wait for the boys to ask us to slow dance. Girls were more mature, and the boys HAD to know that we wanted to and liked to dance because the girls would fast dance together (back then if you danced with another girl nobody thought you were gay)! Boys were shy, and they were afraid of being rejected, so it was like a standoff when the slow song came on. Some of us girls who would have loved for a boy to leave his sweaty palm print on the back of our dress, but often it did not happen. They acted like they were uncomfortable and afraid. I think if the girls had asked them to dance some of them may have run away.
I don't know about the current "rules" but I do know that girls call boys on the telephone now (that was another thing that many of us older ladies were forbidden to EVER do back in the "olden days" too)...So I have to say, I don't see anything wrong with asking a boy to dance. All they can do is say, "Yes" or "No". So why not ask? Sometimes you never know the answer unless you do ask!
Good luck, have fun and you may get some rejection but there may also be a young man who is smart enough to realize that you are both at the dance to have fun, and he will oblige you by stepping on your feet! :-)

Of course, there's no law against doing so. It feels weird because most girls are used to guys asking them to dance, instead of the other way around.

But if you want a serious relationship....even though most men say they wouldn't mind a girl asking.....they still want to be the persuers. It's the way they're made.
