He has been told he should have surgery. I have never heard of an aneurysm on the heart valve--do you think he has his facts right?

Yes, it does happen and it is serious.
An aneurysm is a weakend spot on an artery that can literally "blow out". The result is internal bleeding.
One located within close proximity to the heart, left unchecked, would definitely not have good prognosis for the patient.

If the surgeons feel confident that he can survive the operation then he should consider having it done.

An aneurysm can occur inside any valve in the heart, and also in any artery in your body. An aneurysm is basically a ballooning of a vessel inside the body. If it burst, of course he will die. People have lived through aneurysms, but Ive never heard of anyone living through one that originated in the heart. If I was 80, I would tell the docs to send me a bill....and Id hit the beach for a long vacation. At 80, hes had a long life, so I would just go along with whatever he wants to do. Good luck to you and your uncle. The final decision of his time on Earth is left up to God whether he has surgery or not.

Medical definition of an aneurysm ---- " Aneurysm is a sac containing blood or elements derived from blood situated in the line of an artery and communicating with it.". More simply it is a dilated artery or localised dilation of a heart chamber. It can occur among seniors just because of age.Its rupture is always fatal. This is prevented by surgery.

The doctors would not have suggested surgery if they didn't think he could make it. I would talk to his doctors first and be sure he did get the facts correct.

If it bursts, he would die. If they do surgery, he would live. Doctors don't perform this type of surgery unless they are almost positive of the outcome.

You can have an aneurysm almost any where in your body. I know someone that had one behind their knee, it burst and before they caught it, it got to the lungs and killed him.
