I am enlisting soon, but have no real idea what to do. I can't be an officer, so enlisted jobs only, please. Please, no anti-war people answers, this is MY future, not yours.

my practice asvab says i am qualified for any job the army has, meaning i have my choice in over 100 jobs. it would be easier if i was dumb and only had 5 or 6 to choose from.

Your ASVAB is pretty much going to make that choice for you. Do well & you have lots of choices, do average & they will assign you what they need. They pretty much will assign you anyway.

My son is a LT & US Army Ranger & right now he is babysitting newly home from Afghanistan soldiers who can not stay out of trouble. They are letting their hair down - so my son says. He is doing damage control. I hope your Mom taught you better like I taught my son. Remember the $5000 beer - get a DUI as a specialist & you are a private again. No tolerance for drinking & driving - shows bad judgement to your Officers.

Good luck & enjoy - check where your job sends you. Some
bases are better than others.

Just about any job that you can be a warrant officer. Nobody is really sure what they are supposed to do, so they are pretty much left alone, as long as they do their job. Also, biomedical technician. That is what they called the guys that repaired medical equipment. The best advantage to this job, is that if you decide to get out after your first tour is up, you can get hired pretty quickly. Another one is working finance. They do not get details or guard duty as much as other people do, and usually, they work Monday through Friday.

personally, if I had it to do again, I think I would have gotten two or more years of college before I went in the first time. It gives you a chance to get away from home and get some independence, and the extra education would give you a better choice of jobs in the military. There is always a demand for medical lab techs and x-ray techs in the military, because most get out and get good civilian employment when they get out.

Myself, I was a medic, US Army. I would have had more choices for my first enlistment, if I had improved my reading, writing, and mathematics skills before I went in.

The military is not all shoot em up bang-bang. It functions just like a civilian community. Every base has the same things any city has.

Your ASVAB will have alot to do with what jobs (MOS) you can get. However, I suggest that you go for something that is a marketable career when you get out. Something in computers, mechanics, health or similar. Sure it's fun to fire the big guns and stuff, but it doesn't do you a whole lot of good on the outside when you need a job. That is, whether you just do 4 years or 20 and retire. Plan for your future.

Good luck!!

I would think that the military police would be a good choice since it translates to a police officer status for the most part in the civilian world. I have a family member that has done this for 18 years and is getting close to retirement with many offers of employment when he does come out....good luck!

The best thing for you to do is not enlist.

If you're going to insult Condoleeza Rice, you have already proved your discontent for the leadership of the military, so why bother?

Condoleeza(note spelling for future idiotic statements) Rice was born into a low income family and worked her *** off to be what she is today. What she believes in and stands for is not a whim or a talking point from an idiot on a news network. She knows a hell of a lot more about this country and this world than you or I. So be careful who you disrespect.

Instead of joining the army, why don't you join a political party that gives money to people in order to keep them poor?

Why don't you just join the ACLU instead? Or some other circus? Or just keep bragging about your ASVAB results under the army's standards. I bet those are some really high standards.

Join the Air Force instead and become an Aerial Gunner, preferably on a helo. You'll be an enlisted aviator in the Air Force and you'll still get to shoot stuff and blow things up!

I was a light wheeled vehicle mechanic (63b) originally i was a 63s (heavy wheeled vehicle mehanic). If you areinterested in being a mechanic then these would be a good choice. But this is only my opinion.

If I had to be in the Army, I would like to have been a tanker. Plenty of protection!

Depending on your ASVAB score. I was a 92A Automated Logistics Specialist when I was in. I looked it. If you're good with computers then there you go.

Thanks for serving!!
