I used this idea for my son's Hallowedding. I got small pie pumpkins and mini gourds and covered them with spray adhesive and then sprinkled glitter on them - completely. I used silver, gold, purple, blue, magenta and hot pink glitter. Then let them dry. After they are dry - take white glue and draw on vines in spiral pattern and glitter those in a contrasting color.

I then took autumn leave vines and laid those out down the middle of the table and then placed the pumpkins on top of the vines of leaves. Some I raised up by putting them on inexpensive candlesticks. Others, I cut a hole in the top big enough for a votive candle and used them on the table as well. It was very, very pretty, unusual and at the end of the party - we told everyone to take a pumpkin home.

good luck with your party

I think oriental trading co is a great site, too. They have supplies for every theme imaginable. A Caribbean or luau theme is a great idea for the outside. Or you could do a pirate theme, it's pretty hot cause of johnny depp! BBQ always go well outside, too. but browse that site if you don't like these suggestions...they have literally thousands of theme ideas.

Get a big tent (in case of bad weather)
Bar-be-que is always great for a b-day party
Provide warm drinks (like cocoa or cider)
Do archery, sack races, and other activities that will warm up the participants.
Happy 13!

You could have "prairie day" where you get someone to teach your group about pioneer life on a tall grass prairie. People will find it very interesting. You could even theme the food served so that it is "inspired" by actual dishes served in those days. If it is a sleepover, that night you could all watch "Dances with Wolves."

Set up a tent, stack bales of hay around so ppl will have a place to sit in this field, and have a hayride. Decorate w/ punkins adn have a fall theme. Maybe let everyone decorate their own cupcakes w/ icing and sprinkles and such...
