Because the fumes from the onion is a kind of sulphuric acid. It always bothers me, but for some reasons my kids are immune. Go figure.

easy way to cut onions ! first put onions in water up to half hour and remove from in it and then cut it u wont get tears from u r eyes.

Why? That I don't know. But I do know this, try putting your onion in the fridge for half an hour before you chop it, or in the freezer for a few minutes. No more tears.

1. onions have certain oils that come out of it. 2. If you have a sharp knife it wouldn't happen at all or as much.
