It depends what kind of vegetarian you are. The most common form of vegetarianism is a lacto-ovo vegetarian and they eat dairy and eggs. Most I would hope choose vegetarian fed, cage free eggs.

Most vegetarians eat eggs because they are not flesh, but the membrane surrounding what would have eventually become something of flesh. Eating eggs is also how many vegetarians get the protein they need and do not get from meat.
Vegans, on the other hand, do not eat eggs because they are an animal by-product. Vegans do not eat or drink anything that comes from an animal: meat, eggs, milk, other dairy products, etc.

vegitarians, yes. they can eat animal bi products, for example, they can drink milk, even though it comes from cows. they just cant eat the meat of a cow.
a vegan, cannot eat an egg. they will not eat any part of an animal, or anything containing an animal bi product, or anything derived from an animal bi product. so vegans wont eat the meat of a cow, or drink the milk from a cow,
and there are many, many things vegans cannot eat. (actually there are more things a vegan cannot eat, than what a vegan can eat)
a vegan cannot eat an oreo, because the creamy filling contains whey, (evaporated milk) and that is an animal bi product.
so a vegan cannot eat an egg. they cannot eat chickens, and they cannot eat anything that comes from a chicken.
they cannot eat honey, because bees are part of the animal kingdom (even though they're insects) and honey is a bi product of a bee.
there are some vegitarians that are very loose on the term "meat" and even though they dont eat cow, they can be seen once in awhile eating fish or chicken. (where its not red meat) but those are often times rare depending on what area you live in.

A lacto-ovo vegetarian eats eggs and milk. (I am a lacto-ovo). A lacto-veg. eats dairy, but not eggs. An ovo-veg. eats eggs but no dairt. A pisces-veg. eats fish, and a poul-veg eats poultry. A vegan eats no refined products, no animal bi-products (including honey) and they also don't use any animal bi products.
