What's with all the carnivores in the veggie section dissing veggies?

Why do people who evidently haven't done the slightest bit of research into a subject feel compelled to pass judgement on it and make assertions (re: protein etc) that were found groundless decades ago.

For crying out loud, most of the vegetarians WERE once meat eaters themselves at some point, but they read up on vegetarianism, tried it and stuck with it.

Do you think there's something in the diet of those posters?

Perhaps they are like gay bashers - kind of repressed closet vegans or something.

I know that it's a choice that a lot of people don't understand; you can't have been veg for long if you haven't encountered blank stares, ignorant questions and even some scoffing. And I know that, in general, people attach fear to what they don't understand (this is where racism and homophobia come from... fear and ignorance.) What I don't understand is how someone could be so worked up over the fact that some people don't eat animal carcasses that they would deliberately seek us out in order to spew their venom at us. Baffling...

It's just not socially acceptable yet and having that encouragement from the 'faceless crowd' makes all the difference. A lot of people rely on that acceptance from society as the primary influence for their decisions. And, like every other social movement, only a small group embrace it at first, followed by the majority of the population in a trickle down effect.

I think veganism is wonderful and if people can pull away from their dependancy on meat than that is fantastic! I know I haven't made it but I try to buy organic and do what I can. My problem is with people who bash me because I've hunted and fished in the past. I don't think many of these people that harass me about being "omnivorous" understand that where I come from meat is essential. Poverty dictated that I hunt as a means of survival of myself and my family.

I love and appreciate all animals but I, at the same time, understand their deaths to sustain my family. I never enjoyed "pulling the trigger" on any animal that I've killed but the brief pain they feel from a bullet wound to the head is much better than the very slow death of my siblings and myself of starvation (seriously, I'm not joking...literally STARVING...something many people know nothing of)

I just think people need to think about that before screaming in my face about killing cows and deer while they skip off to their rich organic stores to buy expensive items that we could never afford...

I agree with you that we must not criticize vegetarians because it is their choice and that it is idiotic to go to the Vegetarian & Vegan section just to criticise them and their eating habits.

Your assessment is correct. It appears that people get all kinds of courage to say what they want no matter how cruel, foul, or otherwise stupid when they have the cover of anonymity on the internet.
