I know a lot of vegans don't even drive cars, but if they did, would they use oil in their cars if oil comes from dead animal matter? Also, since bees produce honey, does a vegan eat honey?

I don't understand why vegans don't eat honey. The honey is not actually coming FROM the bees, it's produced by the bees from POLLEN and pollen isn't from an animal.

Animals aren't being killed for oil. "Petroleum (from Greek petra – rock and elaion – oil or Latin oleum – oil ) or crude oil is a black, dark brown or greenish liquid found in porous rock formations in the earth. The American Petroleum Institute, in its Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards (MPMS), defines it as 'a substance, generally liquid, occurring naturally in the earth and composed mainly of mixtures of chemical compounds of carbon and hydrogen with or without other nonmetallic elements such as sulfur, oxygen, and nitrogen.'" This isn't even an issue.

Animal byproducts are not a major concern--they will disappear as more people begin to embrace a vegan diet.
"Once the demand for primary animal products shrinks and the by-products are no longer so cheap, companies will find new filtering methods, new ways to cure concrete, new means of producing steel and rubber, new blood-test methods, etc. As more people are concerned with animals, farming practices will be altered so fewer animals are harmed and killed during planting and harvesting of vegan food."

And everything that I've read leaves little reason to believe that bees have a subjective experience of pain. As such, it doesn't make much sense to advocate avoiding honey any more than avoiding vegetables. Still, I try to buy foods without it because eating vomit just seems gross--but I'm not going to worry if I ingest it.

Okay, I have to butt in here and say this. As the granddaugher of a beekeeper do you people think that people would regularily harvest honey if the bees attacked in a mad swarm every time? Do you think that beekeepers would destroy their investment every time? NO! Don't be stupid!

For the uneducated here's how they do it...

1. Spraying light bursts of smoke into the hive alerts the bees the beekeeper is coming and settles them down (YES you CAN train bees...even if you use a different smelling smoke the bees will attack. The same type of smoke must be used every time)

2. Once the bees are settled cherry scent is applied to the underside of the top lid, which the bees dislike, and which drives the bees to the bottom of the box. Then the beekeeper gently removes the comb racks and replaces the lid.

Bees produce almost 70% more honey than they will use in one year so beekeepers carefully count the amount they take so as not to overwork the bees and to keep the swarm healthy. We consume the surplus ONLY and nothing more.

The point of my tirade? Out of the 50,000,000 bees my Grandpa keeps he was only stung twice last year. TWICE. (Do you realize that in a recent study it was found that the average person swallows around 20 bugs a year awake and during sleep?!) The honey industry is as humane as possible because the keepers don't want to thow away their money and every bee dead is less honey made and more money they have to spend on bees...

NOT TO MENTION EXTREMELY PAINFUL!

Seriously, get a grip folks....

Most do not eat honey. They think that somehow we are raping the spoils of nature from bees. Never mind that if their honey is not harvested they swarm and move on.... whereas if they stay put, then can pollenate our VEGETABLES adn stuff...... my dad raised honeybees and NEVER got stung, ever.... he knew how to handle them at harvest time.

Oil in cars is a great issue. I'm sure many would like you to think their hybrid is not using much oil.... maybe they use that synthetic oil stuff.....

Egads, I just can't imagine orienting my life around avoiding animal products.

Vegans don't eat honey, and here's why: the way that honey is harvested causes bees to attack, hence killing themselves. Vegans don't eat meat or any other animal products, honey is an animal product. As far as the oil goes, as long as it doesn't involve KILLING animals just for the purpose of oil, I don't think it's really a problem

Actually, many people, including vegans, are turning to biodiesel and/or vegetable oil as alternative sources of fuel for their automobiles. As to the issue of honey, that one is a bit surprising. Many of the vegans that I have known have on occasion eaten honey...albeit it was organically produced.

They don't want to steal the animals food source or they object to the way it was taken. There are so many things with animal connections that your point is true; it's just about impossible to not use them... Balance and standing up for what you believe are more important... Sometimes people get so caught up in the "lifestyle" that they forget to LIVE! Live but tread softly I say... (a former vegan...)
