The nurse informed me that I had chlamydia. Immediately after finding out, I asked my boyfriend about it. He got tested twice, once after he found out I had it and the second time to make sure he didn't have it. BOTH times they were negative. He took the test before he was given the medication, afraid he was going to get somethng from me.Without thinking of a retest, I immediately took the medication that was prescribed for the std. I have so many questions as to how this could have happened. Is it possible that I could have been misdiagnosed? I was a virgin when we started dating. He's never been unfaithful, but has had one sex partner before me. I know it's been two months, and I already took the medication, but is there a way to find out I was misdiagnosed for something else and not an std? PLEASE HELP!

I believe I've read up on several occassions of this happening before. In one study, a young girl at the age of 16 who had NEVER had sex was found to have had chlamydia. With this disease, it is known as the "silent" disease. It gernerally is unknown about in 75% of infected women and half of infected men. It's alarming that the percentage of people who are infected don't show any symptoms. In a way you are very fortunate you obtain routine pap smears. It can be spread by way of intercourse or by oral/anal sex. What happened in this instance was that this young woman had never had any sexual acts done to her by her partner, but she did recount remembering that she was raped by her stepfather when she was very young. I'm not suggesting that that same scenario is a possibility with you, but if you can recall maybe dealing with a rape issue in the past or something, you may have contracted that a long time ago and the pap smear just made it present. It has happened before. Have you ever done anything outside of intercourse before you hooked up with your current bf? You could have contracted it that way too. The test for chlamydia is pretty accurate if done properly. There is a very low percentage that something could have gone wrong with the smear. But the possibility is there, so I would go and have a retest done as soon as possible. Other than that, there is nothing else that I can clinically think of. Just make sure that you continue to get your annual check ups and the next time you speak with your regular doctor or your GYN, ask about getting innoculated with the HPV vaccine as well. You should advise your bf to do so as well as it will statiscally eliminate warts or to a much more important extent cervical cancer. It is so worth it and I recommend that you/bf get it ASAP. Well sweety, other than that, nothing more that I can think of. Good luck and happy safe sex.^@^

Well first off no you can't find out if you were misdiagnosed? If the doctor came back and said you had chlamydia, I'm almost positive it would have been correct. However a lot of times, doctors will come back and tell you if it came back inconclusive (meaning, not negative and not positive) and in that case with chlamydia the doctor will go ahead and give you the antibiotics just in case. As for you know he could have gotten it from the last person he was with, but then in that case his test would not have came back negative. I would go ahead, take a breather, relax, let the situation go, forget about it, keep your eyes open for any fishy behavior on your boyfriends part and if he gives you no reason to believe he is being unfaithful, just keep a watchful eye! Good Luck!

I am not in the medical field but let me tell you my story. When my husband and I first got married I was having some vaginal problems. We did not have insurence so I just went to the ER. When I got there the doc did an exam and said I had chlamydia. We got in a big fight cause I was accusing him of cheating, and he was accusing me. They gave me some meds that made me real sick and I found out 2 days later I was pregnant. I had stopped the meds and made an appointment with a real doc. When I got there I told them about the chlamydia and that I had stopped the meds and needed a new prescription. He said ok I am going to run a test on you. He ran a bunch of tests and came back in the room almost laughing and said "you don't have chlamidia, you have a yeast infection and a bladder infection." I was relieved but PISSED! My husband then went in to see him and they also discovered he had yeast. There was no chlamydia. So in my opinion, you were missdiagnosed. If it happened to me, it can happen to you. There isn't much you can do about it now, if you are feeling better in that area then just let it go. And from now on, always ask for a second test.

Usually it takes awhile to run all the tests. Usually a doctor cannot tell you that you have chlamydia immediately. Also, I have heard many cases of people having yeast infections and it getting misdiagnosed as chlamydia. Either way, the meds he gave you for your infection would take care of both. If your boyfriend still doesn't believe that you weren't unfaithful though, I would dump the boyfriend. Without trust, what is there?

Yes, errors are possible. Call your doctor's office where you got the test and tell them you want a copy of the results. Ask when they can have it ready then go pick it up. Any number of errors could have happened: they could have called the wrong patient, they may have made a mistake in collecting the specimen and didn't want to tell you they made a mistake and told you you had it just to be on the safe side, etc.
If you pick up the results and the results are positive from the lab, then I don't think there is any way that you will ever know since you were already treated.
Also, get a copy of your boyfriends results and look at it for yourself. Boys sometimes lie!! (so do girls) I know that is not something you want to hear but...... be safe rather than sorry.

when i got pregnant my doc told me i have chlamydia, i asked my baby's dad 2 get tested, he did and nothing, i wasnt with anyone else so i was baffled and he was mad at me, even on the off chance i had it from years back and my last partner, i still should have given it 2 him i thought. his doc cleared it up 4 us, he said chlamydia is one of the few stds that can lies dormant in the body 4 a while but also if my guy had been on antibiotics 4 any period of time, it was possible that took it away.
ask ur bf if he was on meds 4 anything a while back
thats probably what happened, or else u were in fact wrongly diagnosed.

If you have chlamydia, chances are that you may exhibit few symptoms. Chlamydia symptoms may be mild and can easily go undetected. Women are more likely to experience few symptoms associated with the infection although chlamydia in men can also result in few or no symptoms. Signs of chlamydia usually appear between 1 and 3 weeks after infection, though sometimes they can take longer to manifest.

Early chlamydia signs and symptoms tend to be mild and include pain during urination, frequent urination, and low fever. Later symptoms can be more intense and include nausea, fatigue, and abnormal discharge from the vagina or penis. Oral chlamydia, usually passed through oral sex, can result in a sore throat and throat infection. In anal infections, swelling of the rectum can occur. Though rare, males suffering from the disease may experience swelling of the testicles. Other symptoms in women include abdominal pain, lower back pain, irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting, and pain during sex.call your health department and talk to them maby they can tell you something.

well, the most important thing is that there is a cure for it, and if it was something else it would have come out in the test. But if you wanna make sure go take another test.
