Spend $500 and go have fun someplace where you've never been. Think of out-of-the-way places like Mackinaw Island, Lake Louise, Yellowstone, a spa in the Berkshires. Take a friend and the two of you enjoy yourselves.
Then buy yourself the best birthday present of all...a savings fund. Put away $1500 in an investment so that next birthday you can go off and enjoy yourself on the interest from the investment. The beauty of compound interest is that it grows without you even thinking about it. In a few years, you'll be able to take that $1500 and use it for something you really deserve in life and won't have to think twice about getting it.

Invite your friends over and have a cocktail party. Enlist some help from a friend to help plan the party. A few hors d overes and a few cocktails. For the girls have a fun colorful drink that you serve in a martini glass and the guys a good bourbon or a few bottled beers to choose from. Keep the drink list to a minimum and keep it simple. Call a local catering company for the food. Have mini quiches or sushi and have something sweet like mini cupcakes.

You have two grand to spend on yourself for your birthday? Make yourself feel really good then....give it to someone really in need. Like homeless people for instance. These are tough times we live in. That money could really help.

Spend half and put the other half into an ETF that matches the S&P 500. Then when you retire, ask yourself which was the better chioce.
