My family always makes enchiladas during the holidays and we have always put a black olive in the middle of each one. Some say for luck, some say to ward off evil, what does your family say?

Mi familia hace siempre enchiladas durante los días de fiesta y hemos puesto siempre una aceituna negra en el centro de cada. ¿Algunos dicen para la suerte, algunos dicen guardar del mal, qué su familia dice?

I doubt that my family has ever heard of enchiladas (they are Southern) but anything with black olives is good.

I'm talking to a friend, who is Mexican. He said the olive is for good luck in the new year.

I don't know of any traditions involving an olive in the middle of an enchilada......

Wow i haven't heard that one since I was a girl. My grandmother used place them in her enchiladas and in her tamales. I don't put a whole one in them anymore I used the chopped olives instead.
