Many bacterial STDs ( gonorhhea, chlamydia, syphillis) can be detected through blood tests as well as many viral STDs (HIV, herpes, hepatitis). Urine, I am not so sure about. I know that a few can be detected thru urine, but I would have to drag out old books to see which ones.

A blood or urine attempt would be waiting to tell if there is an STD virus or micro organism modern-day. Thats how (as nicely the swab attempt) you attempt for them...
