Your friend most likely got it from someone he had sex with. Since most people don't know they have the virus they can spread it around to many people they sleep with unknowingly.
Also, you can NOT get HPV (which causes genital warts) from sharing clothing or by using a toilet or shower after someone who has the virus. HPV is only spread by skin to skin contact and by sex.

HPV is a "loving virus". He more than likely picked up the virus from the stripper and not you. Bodily fluids have to come in contact to spread the virus. I've had the exact same experience and would love to help. My friends and I were best friends as kids and re United just before leaving high school. Even if there are no outside signs of warts, it is still possible to spread herpes if you have them. I would have the stripper checked out, it is unlikely that he got them from clean shorts. The herpes virus would have died after that long with no host organism.
