Vegetarian is MUCH healthier than meat. I'm thinking about it too.

Stezus has the right idea. I was advised to stop eating meat for three weeks. At the time, I was eating meat at almost every meal (breakfast bacon, sausage or ham, lunch sandwich meats, meat dinner entree) so I thought that was going to be really tough. It was for maybe the first few days, but after a while I noticed a huge difference in how I felt physically--less sluggish, more energetic, a "cleaner" feel. Can't describe it better than that. After the three weeks were up I had my first meat meal and felt the contrast almost immediately afterwards. Since then, I've been a vegetarian--its been about 10 years.
As to people who tell you that you won't get enough iron or proteins from a vegetarian diet, thats ridiculous. You should be taking a multivitamin and mineral supplement anyway whether you eat meat or not. But you won't have to worry about all those hormones that they inject livestock with, or avian flu or mad cow disease!

Okay, so I'm a pretty experienced vegetarian, I was raised veggie and have been my entire life. It is absolutely healthier that eating meat, but you have to be very careful about the nutrients that you are getting.
Protein can be obtained through soy (tofu, soy milk, other soy meat substitutes), beans (which also provide essentiel fiber), dairy (which I personally am not a big fan of), nuts, and whole grains. It is also very important to make sure you get enough calcium and B vitamins, it is easy just to take a multi vitamin for these.
Go for it!! You won't regret it and its easier than you think. It is also much healthier for the planet and everything living on it.

I've been one for 5 years. You have to eat the best ftood you can afford when you become a Vegetarian. Try Odwalla, juice suplliments, and Ezekiel 4.9 breads. They are filled with healty enzimes. Susshi is good too. ( vegitarian susshi) It's seawwod and avocado. Also (in moderation) Check out Morning star Farms products. They make low fat all vegitable meat substitues, like Black Bean Burger, and Parmasion chicken patteis

Being a vegetarian is not healthier, unlike some people here have claimed. Your average veggie diet can have some benefits, but that comes from eating a wide range of fruit and vegetables, and being health conscious, not not eating meat.
Not eating meat is not healthy, in fact, it can be quite the opposite if your diet is not planned very well. There are a number of nutrients, and proteins, in our diet, that our body usually only gets from animal sources. Consequently, although these things do exist in plants, it is usually much less adept at getting it than it would be from meat. Meaning often more has to be eaten. A deficiency in any of these nutrients can be very unhealthy, especially for children when they need these things for growth and development. There are other issues about vegetarianism, while not, if carefully planned, being unhealthy, not having all the benefits that meat has.
That meat is unhealthy is a myth. Yes, it does contain saturated fat and cholesterol, and too much of either of these products can be bad for health, but there is no problem at all in the amounts more people eat. People who have a McDonald's every day and pig out on junk food are going to kill themselves, but your average meat eater will have no problem and will usually be very healthy. Anyway, saturated fat is created by your body when you eat more calories than you use, as a means of storing them, so plant eaters are not exempt from fat. Cholesterol is a necessity also, you do need quite a bit in your diet, and most people don't need to worry about it at all.
Your body is perfectly well adapted for meat eating, and all the supposed problems with it's consumption are either false or irrelevant.
As I said, you can be a perfectly healthy veggie, but not eating meat does not carry any benefits by itself.

I think that for a week try to have less meat and more vegetables if you find that you are doing ok then the next week you eat even less meat and even more vegetables and so on and so forth until eventually you eat only vegetables but if somewhere in the process you are feeling weak and dizzy then you should really think of your energy levels without meat at all

It can be a pain, but I have been one for 16 years. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be a meat eater now. It's easier than it was when I started, though. Good luck in your search for what's right for you.
