HPV is just as common in men as it is in women. More women know they have the virus though because there is a test for it. There is no test for men to detect HPV. Men can go years without realizing the have the viruses. They usually find out they have it by developing genital warts, but that can take years and even months to develop, so they keep passing the virus on unknowingly. Women usually find out they have HPV by having an abnormal pap smear come back. But, yes, it is just as common in men as it is in women.

It's very common in women today. It does have a risk of cervical cancer but if you get a pap test each year or if your at high risk every 3-6 months then it usually never develops into cancer. There are certain types of low or high risk strands of the virus that men can pass onto women or women to men. The safest way of not passing anything is for women to get a pap every year, use a condom, limit sexual partners. For men, wear a condom and limit sexual partners. ALSO TELL your partner if you have the virus. It's a very common STD between both sexes and it takes a mature partner to understand what your going through. On the up side HPV can go away! I know this from personal experience and from talking to my gynecologist. Hope this helps.

Men are HPV carriers--they pass the virus on to their partner(s) and oft times never have symptoms. The HPV virus is generally harmless to men since it specifically thrives in cervical tissue, which a man lacks. HPV is common in both male and females and an estimated 60 percent of the population is infected with at least one type of HPV.

Absolutely...any microorgaism that can infect a female can also infect a male...HPV is more common in women yes, but men can definately get it. If infected, you'd see wart-like growths on the infected part, ie. head or shaft of penis, or anus in most men, in most women it is visible on the labia or on the anus, but some women carry it on the cervix. That we cannot see and that is one of the reason a pap test is so important.
