As a person that worked in the field...
You can hear the mechanical valves but they sre not used that much any more. The valves most used are actually from pigs. So they are real tissue and not heard.
All of the people that have had the valves replaced do feel better.

My dad's friend had one.. Before, it sounded exactly like a watch ticking but now his heart sounds more like a normal beat.. He feels a lot better now.
