When I do a pot luck dinner, I supply a main dish and a dessert, as well as beverages, and I ask guests to bring salads or side dishes.
I do this mostly out of fear that everyone will bring potato chips and bagged cookies, and that we won't have any "real" food. This way, I know there will at least be an entree!

I don't think anyone will be offended. It's just that sometimes people don't know what to bring. Perhaps you could make a list of the guests, write down whether anyone is vegetarian or has certain food restrictions- make a menu, and suggest a dish to everyone you are inviting. That way people will know what to bring and you will know that there will be a bit of everything.

Even though you are providing drinks and your place is the venue, you should also have a food item. Perhaps you could have coloured paper plates, so that clearing up is easier afterwards. Have a good time!

You should supply something in the food department - whether it be chips and dip, salsa, a dessert - since you are hosting the party. Just keep it pretty simple and choose a few easy things to make - then let everyone else figure out what they want to bring. Happy party!!

Pick a theme like make your own pizza night. You supply the pizza shells and ask the guests to bring their favorite toppings.
