It's a tough road, but I had a lot of success with this book called The Movie Star Diet. I went to their website and it looks like they're only accepting preorders right now, though. I lost almost 60 lbs on it.

If it were possible to do it fast, do you honestly think there would be so many fat people around? Every popular womens' magazine tells you that you can do it fast, and there we're still fat, and we still fall for their gimmicks every time!
Sorry to say, but you can only lose 1-2 lbs of fat per week. It is not possible to do it any faster (unless you're losing water or muscle). How long did it take you to gain the weight? It will take you a long time to lose it too. Eat a variety of foods, cut out soft drinks completely (yes, even diet pop), stop buttering your bread and use something else (like hummus). Exercise every day (with one day per week free) - try alternating cardio days with weight days. Pick up a copy of Body for Life by Bill Phillips - it's a really great book for someone starting out on a healthy lifestyle (12-week program - and even has a $100,000 contest)

I'm 18 years old and do not have a car. I live three miles out of town which means that every day, if I want to go anywhere, I have to either walk it, or bike it. That's 6 miles minimal, most days getting close to 10 when you count going back and forth to friends houses and stuff. This summer, from biking almost every day, I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't gained any weight and I've been eating much more than I ever have. I'm sure if I were to cut back just a little bit, I'd lose weight so quickly. But I still eat pretty healthy. I'm a vegetarian for one, and I make sure I drink a lot of water.
Also, if you start exercising, if you gain weight, don't worry: Muscle weighs more than fat.
