White blood cells do not trigger or reduce asthma. They do fight infection of viruses and bacteria. Asthma can be triggered by environmental factors or allergies. A lot of times when a person has allergies they will have an increased number of Eosinophils in the peripheral circulation. A type of WBC that contains histamine.

WBC's play no part in asthma unless there is an infection, when the count would be elevated. This can occur in so called asthmatic bronchitis in children.
