Let's say someone found semen on a toilet in a restroom. If s/he smelt it and some got on the upper lip, would s/he be at risk?

My friend went into a restroom and saw white stuff almost like milk..we later that year found out in sex ed it could be semen. He is worrying like crazy. He thinks he found semen in a bathroom and smelt it. Some may have touched his upper lip (under his nose). He wiped it off, but thinks some may have got in his mouth (he couldn't taste or feel anything in his mouth). He is calling me everyday, worring that he got HIV or has a chance. We are only 13, and I don't know what I should do...
I think he is okay because
a) HIV must not live long outside of its host/ in air
b) It might not have been semen
c) It might not have been HIV+ semen
d) It might not have got into his mouth
Can you please help him?

A doctor's visit would bethe best way to decide if he is sick or not.

Just go to the doctor and tell him everything and do a test.

What is the worst thing that can happen?

The doctor will laugh it off.. or he may chide your friend but at least you get to live in peace forever after tat? ;)

I think tat sounds like a good deal, don't you? ;)

no...while HIV can be transmitted through sexual contact, it usually involves the exchanging of body fluids - most importantly - blood. The virus also does not live on surfaces such as toilet seats for very long, and as long as your friend did not have a cut or abrasion that was bleeding where the semen made contact, there's absolutely no way he would get if...assuming it was HIV positive.

All i want to know is, how did it get near his mouth in the fist-place? I don't know about you, but i don't go around smelling the toilet seat right before I'm about to use it. That must be the stupidest thing I've read today, you have to be a class one moron to pull that one off, and I'm a firm believer that stupid people shouldest pass on ones genes.

I am no doctor, but I can say this with absolute certainty. If I ever went into a restroom and found a milky white substance on the seat, I WOULD NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GO ANYWHERE NEAR IT!!!! Not to smell it and certainly not close enough to get it on me.

You friend needs to see a doctor, it is not normal to go around sniffing toilet seats - ugh ! While he is visiting the doctor he needs to tell him all you have said here and let the doctor decide whether he could have contracted HIV.

It often takes many many years for somebody infected with HIV to have their immune system weakened to the point where these opportunistic infections (and unusual cancers) can occur. Once somebody begins to get these infections, they are said to have AIDS.

Avoiding exposure to bodily fluids (blood, semen, vaginal secretions, etc.) is the surest way to avoid getting HIV. he needs to be tested....

You've got to be kidding me that you know someone that would go up to, and smell, strange body fluids. Either way, your friend cannot get HIV from this.

i think he doesnt have it cause like u said,it doesnt live long outside the host...meaning that transmission of HIV needs intimate contact, preferably mucous membranes or blood or body fluid...unlikely to be transmitted through skin.
