Go to your organic food store and get some of those really good chicken sausage things to grill. They're yummy.
Make home made fresh salsa, if you really want to impress. Organic yellow corn chips go well with that.
Definitely fresh fruit salad.
Cheese & cracker tray
Key Lime Pie for adults.
Ice cream or sherbert for kids

For food, you'll probably want to have hamburgers and hotdogs for the kids. Then, maybe do some steak and chicken tips that adults would like, with a variety of marinades. For sides and snacks do the basics : a cheese platter, some chips and dip, pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, corn on the cob from the grilled, and maybe a mixed vegetable grill - I use zuccinni, squash, eggplant, etc and mix them together and grill with seasoning. . . Make a big fruit punch, and have a variety of sodas, beer, wine, and maybe even a small selection of alcoholic bar selection. Don't forget dessert! Have some cookies, and a cold dessert like ice cream or slush.

we always seem to make a mistake when BBQ-ing and cook tons of food. It really is not necessary. You can either go for crap stuff like burgers and sausages but really you can bbq lots of lean meat too. I always go for thin slices of rump steak, and sometime I bbq salmon wrapped in tin foil. Wrap some small jacket potatoes and put then in the coals. A nice salad and crusty french stick chopped up also fills up the plate.
Get some bananas and peel them, put lots of chocolate buttons inside the banana and wrap with tin foil and let cook on the bbq while you are eating your main food. The chocolate melts and the banana softens and kids love them. Also marshmallows on scuwers melted normally go down well.
Make a punch, non alcoholic for the kids and drivers too so people can help themselves and have a bin full of ice for beers etc. Hope it stays sunny for you!!!

We had a chuck wagon themed B-B-Q this summer. We made ribs and hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill outside. We made a big batch of baked beans and served them out of a big cast iron pot. We went to a feed store and bought a couple of bales of hay and put them in the backyard and threw some blankets around them. We had some potato salad and chips and it was all served on paper plates with plastic silver ware. We put a big outside trash can at the corner of the yard so clean-up was a breeze and everyone had a blast. No we don't live on a farm we live in the suburbs. But the kids and adults alike had so much fun....

The first thing you definetly have to get is (as long as everyone is not vegetarian) spare ribs, chinese chicken wings, hotdogs, beef burgers, sausages, plenty of salad, and obvoiusly rolls for the burgers and hotdogs, relish, tomato sauce mayonese and maybe a wee bit more chicken just plain cooked. and to make it a bit easier for you when people start arriving why dont you cook it all in the oven before hand, then all you have to do is heat over the bbq to give it the smokey bbq taste saves standing over the bbq for hours.... have fun....

Meal - Potato salad, lettuce salad, chicken salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, cheddar broccoli rice, the kielbasa in the BBQ and grape jelly sauce (this is necessary), hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken in an herb garlic sauce and if you can afford it steak tips.
Dessert - Chocolate cream pie, apple pie, french vanilla ice cream, and a yellow cake with whipped cream frosting with strawberries and blue berries in the shape of the American flag!

In the great scheme of things, does it really matter. Tell them you distrust food which is raw in the middle - cancel the BBQ for the farce they usually are and awful people as well posing with ghastly wine glasses ..... I could go on. Poor you - take the money and go shopping instead and get pissed and thank your lucky stars you will never be invited back to theirs in return.
Have a good time.

BBQ leg quarters, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, pickles, light bread for the main meal, maybe different snack cakes for snacks, and those little juices that you buy for a dime apiece for the children, and tea for the adults

You could do like a Mexican/Southwest theme if you wanted.
Chips and Fresh Salsa
Jalepeno Poppers
Salads
Steakers/Burgers/Chickens with pepper jack cheese, rubs, etc. (Kraft has good recipes online)
Smores Nachos (Graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate layered and roasted in a pan)
Sangria (alcoholic) for the adults and you can do a virgin version for the kids.

Well burgers and hotdogs the kids and adults will eat.Try loads of dressing onions, lettuce, cheese, ketchup ,pickles, tomato, coleslaw etc
Everyone can just pick what they want on the burger kids probably saying oh i hate that and that but who cares thats kids for you.
Loads of juice in jugs .
for adults you could buy steak and do kebabs with onions peppers and mushrooms.
Snacks peanuts crisps pocorn.
Have other salads celery ,carrot and a mixed dip.totilla chips
All thats plenty I think maybe some sweets for the kids or icecream and cones for everyone.
A big bucket of ice with wine or beer in it and if you are really generous one for kids with drinks suitable for them.
