No one has been identified as infected with HIV due to contact with an environmental surface

Does that mean that nobody has become infected from a inanimate surface/object? I know HIV can't live long enough to infect someone outside of it's host(unless during sexual contact, birth, needles)...right?

Yes, it means nobody has been shown to be infected with HIV from contact with an ordinary object - such as counters, doorknobs, or toilet seats. Objects which may be contaminated with bodily fluids - such as toothbrushes and razors - are still considered hazardous, though AFAIK no transmission has been documented that way either.

HIV is a fragile virus. Is does not stay viable for very long after leaving the body. It is susceptible to lower temperatures and drying. Environmental surfaces meet the criteria of lower temp and dry surface. Besides, intact skin is still a very formidable barrier to HIV.
