From the little and secret island of Halumi. It's located on an island in the middle of the great Salt Lake in Utah. That's why it's so "salty". It's a Mormon business, I think. It's tasty indeed.

they usually say cyprus
but its a well kept secret that it comes from the town of 'hah! loomi!' in Utah (disregard the island story- its a classic CIA misinformation stunt).
the origin dates dack to when farmer loomis got it to the town and everyone went (you've guessed it!) 'hah! loomis'
of course as its such a famous item the town went on to be named after the cheese.
there is also the tradition that a couple of nasty theiving greek speakers there who disappeared soon after....

It´s greek and delicious grilled or dry fried on fried bread... I live in Spain and I can´t get it. (The cheese that is)
