Yes, the love and respect for animals was the first reason. I started having doubts after a death in the family. It really made the concept of death and dying concrete and real in my mind. After death was made real to me, I couldn't tolerate killing others. A hamburger was no longer just a hamburger, but a dead thing. A peta video was the last straw. I knew I could not contribute to the suffering in the world. Everything just clicked and I've been veg every since.
On top of being the moral choice, my stance is strengthened by the environmental and health benefits. Veg is just better all around!

There are many reasons why I went vegetarian. They were ethics, health, and the environment, and in that order of priority.
The grossness of eating meat was not among them. But in time the idea became progressively more strange. I wonder why I never noticed before.

I learned about how most animals in this country were raised and the conditions that they had to endure so that they could be slaughtered and then eaten. I gave up meat because it was a whole cruel process. Then I lost weight, I got more energy, I was happier than I ever was in my whole life. My health was a side effect of my diet! Imagine! Nobody told me that would happen, I'm just glad that it has.

I ain't a vegetarian but I think vegetarians do it because they don't want to experience how to eat an animal... I think their opinion of eating animals are gross because animals smell and eat all kinds of foods... I pretty much agree with what you said...

I was going to say for health reasons, but when I read your additonal info, that really did gross me out...I love animals, but I really do have to say it is more for health reasons. Red meat is not my friend and neither is dairy....They make me swell up like a balloon.

Don't forget the environmental reasons. Cows have a horrible effect on global warming and the cleanliness of our water compared to say wheat, which doesn't produce methane and doesn't soil water.

for health reasons. i used to have high cholesterol. my dr. recommended it... i just feel healthier after eating a plant based diet over meat.
with a combo of vegetarian meals and eating oatmeal everyday, my cholesterol dropped from 245 to 167 within a few months.

Neither--I do it out of respect for doing what is right. There are a lot of humans that I neither love nor respect but I still don't go out of my way to hurt them.
