Some one gave me a jar of kim chee. Now what do I do?

It doesn't go too well with Velveeta and Wonderbread.

I love to serve Kimchee (long cabbage) with instant noodle while the taste of instant noodle is boring!

Here are some easy Kimchee recipes :

<<<<<< Fired Chicken with Kimchee >>>>>>>

300 g Chicken thigh - sliced
(marinate it with soy sauce / sugar / cooking wine / corn starch for about 15 to 20 minutes, set aside)
150 g Kimchee
1 onion (sliced)
20 g leek or green onion (cut into 2 inches long)
1 clove of garlic (crushed)
1 tablespoon of Sake or cooking wine
cooking oil
sesame oil

1) Heat some cooking oil in a non-sticking Chinese wok or frying pan, stir fry the garlic and onion slices till you smell the fragrance. Add the chicken slices into the wok to stir quickly, pour cooking wine to the wok

2) Add kimchee to the wok, stir well, add salt to taste, turn off the heat, add green onion / leek into the wok, mix well then add sesame oil in it. Serve immediately with steamed rice

<<<<<<<<< Kimchee Tofu Soup >>>>>>>

1 pack of Tofu (cut into big cubes)
200 g beef (minced or sliced)
100 g kimchee
1/2 onion (sliced)
1 can of chicken soup (clear soup)
cooking oil
salt to taste
sesame oil

1) Heat some cooking oil in a sauce pan or chinese clay pot, stir fry the beef with onion slices for about 1 minute, pour the chicken soup into the pot, bring to boil, add Tofu and boil for around 5 minutes.
2) add salt to taste, add a few drops of sesame oil on the soup before served.

<<<< grilled / BBQ steak with Kimchee wrapped with lettuce >>>

1 crispy lettuce of your choice (leaves sparated)
300 to 500 g of sirlon steak or fillet steak (cut into 1 inch cubes) andd marinate it with Korean BBQ sauce (see below)
150 g kimchee
sesame oil

Homemade Korean BBQ Marinade:
1000 cc Soy Sauce (preferable organic ones)
80 g cane sugar (you can adjust the sweetness)
80 cc Japanese Sake
50 cc Mirin (Japanese cooking wine)
200 cc Red wine
60 cc Sesame Oil
20 cloves of garlic
30 g whole black pepper (you may add more during the BBQ)

- Heat the soy sauce in a pot, bring to boiled, then leave it to cool
- Disolve sugar into the soy sauce when it's still a bit warm
- Put the soy sauce, Japanese sake, Japanese mirin, garlic, black pepper into a blender, blend well then pour into a jar
- Pour the red wine and sesame oil into the mixture and shake it well before you use it

1) Marinate the beef cubes with BBQ sauce for about 10 minutes

2) Preheat barbecue or a char-grill pan to very hot, cook the beef cubes on the pan, turning frequently till it's medium cooked (or rare / well done as prefered)

2) Roll kimchee and the beef cube with the lettuce leave and serve (or with steamed rice)

The Korean BBQ Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for about 1 month. The sauce goes well with beef / chicken.

The Korean government named kim chee (or kimchi) a national treasure. A basic recipe for kim chee consists of vegetables pickled in a solution of garlic, salt, and red chili peppers. It is eaten year-round for its spicy taste and because it contains lots of vitamins C and B. In earlier times, during the fall, women made enough kim chee to last until early spring. In the winter, the kim chee would be buried in the ground, where it was warm, to keep it from freezing. Kim chee, also featured in Korean art, is stored outside in large clay jars called tokes , which are supposed to make kim chee taste delicious. Kim chee is ubiquitous in Hawaii and my students say that it is "ono" (Hawaiian for delicious) with hot rice.

Koreans don;t would desire to consume kim-chee yet as an ethnic nutrition kin-chee is rather pointed out with Korea. right here in Hawaii kim-chee sauce is used with crab, fish, and various of alternative different products different than cabbage. I considerate it the oriental sauerkraut.

It doesn't go well with anything, especially my stomach. I have tried it at an Asian restaurant. It is eaten by itself. The restaurant serves it as an appetizer. It had a reverse affect on me. If it is served with a meal, you would treat it like any other dish of the meal (take a bite of this, a bite of that).

If you want to try it, CHILL it. While it is chilling, go get a prescription of Tagamet, and while you're at the drug store having the prescription filled, pickup at least a quart of antacid liquid, some alka seltzer, and Rolaid tablets.

Return home, and make sure all of your purchases are opened and ready to go in an emergency. Then open the Kim Chee, take a fork and have a bite. You have just chewed the most sour, ACID food you will ever eat. Give it a few seconds, then decide if you want a second opinion, or a bunch of the remedies you just bought.

Kim chi (which is actually pronounced more like gim-chi) is a national side dish in Korea (side dishes are called banchan).

Normally, you would have a bowl of rice, and five or six other banchan along with your kimchi. However, kimchi can be made into a stew, sauteed with beef/pork, etc etc.

Kimchi Chigae (gim-chi jjigeh) is kimchi stew. Kimchi Bokkumbab is kimchi rice, rice stirfried with kimchi in a delectable mix that amazes your tastebuds. Etc, etc.

Here are two great websites with recipes and more information about Korean food:

Any main dish can be eaten with kimchi and rice. For example, the taste of bulgogi (grilled and marinated beef, Korean-style) is enhanced with a bowl of rice and a bit of kimchi with every bite.

Hope that helps!

Oh and by the way... kimchi was never meant for velveeta and wonderbread... but with rice!

Kim Chee is good if served chilled. I eat it just like that for appetizer, or with rice, as part of my veggie portion of the day.

You can eat it as it as a side-dish with your meal.
Add it on a bed of rice with a side of Korean seaweed as an option.
Good way to bring the heat down if you can't endure it.
Another way is to make kimchi soup.

It's all good whatever way you eat it, but yeah, it doesn't go with Wonderbread.

It goes well with rice. Alternatively, you can stir fry it with rice/ noodles/ eggs/ meat. Or make thailand sweet and sour soup. Or sandwiched your bread with cucumber, ham, kim chi and tomatoes. Try it.
