I have Diabetes II, diagnosed in June of 1999. I knew I had it when I went to the doctor. I have maintained a good Ha1c sever since October 1999, usually about 6.0 or lower. However, my complications do not fit my control level. I only take oral medication now. I did have to take a small dose of insulin for about 2 years recently because of a bone infection in my big toe. Howver, I have not had to take any insulin since February.

There are about 20 million people that have diabetes. About 10 percent of those have Type 1 leaving the rest with Type 2. Of the total there are about 1/3 that do not know they have it or think it will go away if they ignore it long enough. And that's just the US.

I do. I have type I (autoimmune) like about 10% of people with diabetes. And yes... it sucks way worse than type II which is a totally diffrent animal. Unfortunately, lots of people get the two confused.

I do, although I have a completely different disorder than the one you are probably thinking of, which is diabetes mellitus (and comes in types one and two.)
Whereas diabetes mellitus effects mainly the pancreas, diabetes incipidus is one of many disorders which cause the kidneys to be unable to conserve water.
By the way, they share their name because the term "diabetes" comes from the Greek for "to stand alone" which was the colloquial term for peeing. (Because diabetes mellitus has the common symptom of frequent urination, as does incipidus.)
(My father has Type II diabetes mellitus; he was diagnosed in 2002, and my sister has had gestation diabetes with her most recent child.)
