I don't know much about the state of medicine in New Zealand, I'm afraid. In the USA, there's a procedure called radio-ablation which uses high frequency radio waves to destroy the abnormal pathway of conduction between the atria and ventricles of the heart. A catheter is threaded through the veins to the heart, and the faulty area located so it can be destroyed with high precision, without damaging surrounding heart tissue. It is successful more than 95% of the time, with very low mortality (<0.1%).
Even if you have to fly to Australia or even the US, it would be worth it for your son to have a normal childhood and life!

You could get the abnormal electrical conduction ablated.
I would find him a pediatric cardiologist to see what you can do to keep him in the lifestyle that every little boy wants.
There are treatments for this.....
I don't think that people grow out of Wolf Parkinson White, but at least now they can treat it.

I had a radiofrequency ablation in October. Sounds like your son would benefit from this procedure. See an electrophysiologist specializing in cardiology to see if this would help.
He will not grow out of it. He will develop new pathways which make it worse as he gets older.

TRY: http://www.clevelandclinic.org/heartcenter/pub/guide/disease/electric/wpw.htm

Keep him in front of the TV, video games, taking him fishing, maybe try comic books or reading to him, how about board games, or get him involved in playing educational games on the computer (multi-player games) all these are stationary forms of entertainment.
Good Luck
