Yes it is.

You are actively damaging your kidneys with that BP.
Go immediately in to the ER, or doc.
You are at risk for stroke, and increased risk for organ damage.
HTN emergency is defined as 200/120.. so you are close to a down and out emergency.
Please get treated.

Blood Pressure 180

Single readings of high blood pressure are not uncommon. You know that your blood pressure varies throughout the day. It could denote anxiety or stress or a momentary increase in physical activity. A blood pressure of 148/122 sustained over a period of time can be dangerous. It indicates an increased risk of stroke or heart attack. What is of particular concern is the low number. The diastolic of 122 is definitely too high. At that moment in time the heart is between beats, so this figure represents only arterial resistance to blood flow. In some individuals it can indicate a narrowing of arteries somewhere in their body or some degree of arteriosclerosis. (stiffening of artery walls) In your case you say your normal reading is 110/78, which is great. (and a non- smoker) That would seem to eliminate any artery problem. I would say that you are doing great as far as blood pressure is concerned. If you really want to know what your resting blood pressure averages for a whole day you would have to take your BP about 5 or 6 times during the day. Note each reading should be a RESTING blood pressure. This means you should be at sitting, at rest for at least 10 minutes and not anxious, excited or stressed. Throw out the highest and lowest readings and average the remainder. This would be a good indicator of your normal blood pressure.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

That is high. You will need to be on blood pressure medications if it stays that way. If you are already on blood pressure meds, its time to go have them adjusted.
It can be dangerous if you let it go on too long.
Are you a dialysis pt. Sometimes they run really high blood pressures consistently.
I am a hospital nurse and you could have so many issues right now. If I were your nurse, I would call the MD and get you some lasix and some blood pressure meds ASAP.

My husband is 82 and under 5 doctor's care (general, kidney, heart, skin cancer & pulmonary). I know my high bp is from stress because we have been dealing with his bp running between 160 to 205 for the last week. They have been changing his meds because he had dropped to the 120s and they are working to get him back regulated. I do not want to stress him with my high bp and cannot be away from him as there is not one to take care of him and he is totally dependent on me. I am 64.

I took my friend to the doctor and her blood pressure was about the same as yours and her dr. took me to drive her to the emergency room. My advice is to call your doctor right away or go to the ER, my guess they will have you stay overnight until they get your pressure down. I surprised that you're not having bad headaches etc.

YES.

you should go to your doctor and have your BP checked, and probably be put on some BP pills. this BP is very high and will need to be controlled with meds and probably diet and lifestyle changes. your doctor and a nutritionist can help you to make these changes.

THAT IS VERY VERY HIGH. STROKE LEVEL HIGH! YOU HAVE GOT TO GET ON HIGHBLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE ASAP! I HAVE HIGHBLOOD PRESSURE AND I TAKE MEDS FOR IT. OVER TIME, NOT HAVING IT TREATED, WILL CAUSE IRREVERSABLE DAMAGE TO YOUR HEART AND ARTERIES AND ALSO DAMAGE TO YOUR KIDNEYS. YOU COULD HAVE A STROKE AND OR A HEART ATTACK. I DONT MEAN TO SCARE YOU BUT THIS IS VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS HERE! GO TO THE DOCTOR AS SOON AS YOU CAN. THIS CAN BE TREATED. GOODLUCK :)
