Im quite fed up with my constant cough, and nasty bullshit i cough up. mostly during the morning, but also after a meal, or lots of water, i will cough of dark greenish phlegm. I notice it sits at the back of my throat and causes my throat to hurt as well, until i get it all coughed out. a re-coccuring proccess it seems. I have been to the doctor before, dont sputum cultures, and gram stains or whatever, and came out inconclusive, or nothing at all. one test came up with bacillus avium i think it was, and he said it was a fluke. I actually find the more i smoke, the less i see the ****, but im sure its just hiding. either way smoke or no smoke its here, and annoying.

ive told my story as well as i can i think, and would like someone to give out some answers. from doctors or not, experience with similar matters may hold the answer for me as well. PLEASE let me know if you have any answers, besides "seek a physician".

No, never do that, go to your physician, get the needed investigations done ,get the culture & sensitivit test done. Then only the perfect effective anti biotics can be decided.Mind it antiboitics are not the things to be played with.

If it's not showing up un cultures or gram stains, it could be a virus.

The nurse who suggested "You can try levaquin 500 mg for 7 days" is talking beyond her training. While drugs in the same class as Levaquin are usually effective on respiratory BACTERIAL infections, these drugs are WAY overused, causing an increase in resistance to them. They are now considered 2nd or 3rd line for pneumonias.

My grandfather had something similar. He had to stop smoking (it was doing something to his lungs where they were filling up with fluid and they couldnt drain properly. If its a cold type of thing try sudafed or a cough suppressent like the equate stuff from walmart. (its either DM or CF i cant remember if you read the key ingrediants it says sudafed on there somewhere. Also take advil (ibprophen). Hope this helps and Get well Soon.

Chicken Soup spiced up with some cayenne pepper will help thin the mucus. Tangerines are also a good natural for congestion. They naturally contain the stuff in sudafed. I'd also highly recommend stop smoking!!!!

My recommendation to you is to go to the doctor, as no one here can actually perscribe you a med. You could ask for a Z-pack, which is a 7 day med once a day. It usually works. Your phlem is a sinus problem, and can cause bronchitis, which causes spasmatic coughing fits, with lots of mucus.

Good Luck!

some interesting answers. b. avian is a bird strain of mycobacterium. are you around birds routinely? it is possible that this bacterium is settled somewhere in your respiratory tract. however i am inclined to believe that your are experiencing a viral infection, or perhaps chronic sinus infection. either on should be easily diagnosable. but i would get the B. Avian thing settled for sure. the rest is basic. if you want to try something fairly harmless try saline lavage of the nasal passages. also called neti. google " saline lavage, nasal passages" for instruction.

green sputum doesn't mean that you need antibiotics. Most times green sputum can mean allergies or viral infection. Wash your hands really well, clean your sheets, wash all your dishes really well
