My husband has not even said "Happy Birthday" to me yet but he is supposed to take son and I out to eat before driving out of town for work. I know he is stressed/preoccupied with his work, but I can't help feel a little miffed, and that maybe we should go somewhere "fancy" to make up for it. Today, my birthday, he came home for lunch and he silently-grumpily made his lunch and then left without saying "bye" -I had to run out in my bare feet to say "see ya later" to him...so what do you think I should do?

The Olive Garden has vegetarian options. Most places can do SOMETHING vegetarian. Pasta is a great out-to-eat vegetarian meal because you can always substitute some other sauce for the meat sauce or tell them to leave out the chicken and substitute it for a vegetable you like. It's the most versatile dish I think.

Another option is Indian restaurants. There are a lot of vegetarian Indians, so Indian restaurants always have something and are more than willing to accommodate a vegetarian.

Oriental restaurants are very similar to Indian restaurants. Try them as well.

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday dear Explorergrrrl, Happy Birthday to you!

Well it seems to me like it's got to be something other than stress from work that's bothering him. No matter how stressful his work might be that's no excuse to tell his wife happy birthday. I'm sorry he's being this way with you...especially today. I say just do your best to ignore the fact that's he's being an a**. Maybe go out and enjoy your birthday with your son or some friends/family. Don't let him ruin your day. If he asks why you didn't include him, tell him how he made you feel today for ignoring the fact that its your birthday. He could have very easily woken you up with a kiss and a happy birthday wish!

Good luck and enjoy the rest of your day!

So which is your question, the restaraunt or how to deal with a grumpy husband who has yet to shower you with love and affection for your birthday??

Restaraunt...I would go to a Japanese or nice Thia restaraunt, they usually have several vegetarian things on the menu.

Hubby...when he gets home, let him know that you understand he has been under stress lately, but that your feelings were hurt when he didn't mention your birthday and you would like to go out to dinner. Be sure to use "I" language and not "you". Don't put him on the defense but communicate that your feelings have been hurt.

Happy Birthday! Hope it gets better

Yeah, sounds like you're going off on a tangent about your husband neglecting you on your birthday.

I don't know if they have these in your area, but there's a chain in Houston called Rainforest Cafe. There's also a local restaurant here called the Hobbit Cafe. Never tried them as I'm not strictly vegetarian, but I've heard good things about them.

Maybe your husband is going to surprise you when he gets home! Maybe he's just playing a role so you can think he's mad at you? That's my guess. I suggest going to a Chinese restaurant. They always have plenty of vegetarian options. Happy Birthday!
