chivalc, i know LOTS of raw foodists (my parents included) and none of them are 100%. the most i have heard anyone being is 95%. most are 50%-80%.

the concept is that cooking above 48C/118F destroys enzymes which are healthy for you.

i personally believe that being 100% raw would not be especially healthy unless you make a real effort to eat lots of nuts and lots of sprouted beans for protein. and don't forget that fat is also an essential macronutrient, so try to use extra virgin olive oil, avocados and coconuts in your cooking if you are trying this diet.

I was raised vegetarian and am still a vegetarian, and am in excellent health. I can count on one finger the colds I've had in the past six years.

It's true, your body requires more nutrition than you can get just from raw veggies, but you can get complete proteins from combining two different plant proteins, for example rice and beans. Soybeans are a complete protein in themselves, and are the only plant source to contain all the essential amino acids. There are a lot of delicious soy products available, and recipes for using them. For anyone hung up on the taste and texture of meat, look in the frozen food department at WalMart (where it says breakfast) and you will find burgers and sausages and other soy products that are quite good. Also in their produce department you will often find a section of vegetarian meat replacement products.

Raw veggies are beneficial to good health, although some need a little bit of cooking to release all their nutritional resources, carrots for one.

Unless a person uses a little meat products such as milk or eggs (sparingly), one will need to make sure to get a supplement of vitamin B12, as it is found only in animal products, and only in very small amounts in certain vegetable sources.

Supplements such as a good all-round daily vitamin is important to everyone, as our foods are depleted of the vitamins they once contained because generally the soil they're grown in is not at rich as it once was back before it was being farmed so intensively. Putting back manufactured nutrition into the soil just isn't the same.

So to answer your question, how healthy is a 100% raw food veggie diet: A person needs lots of fresh foods in their diet, but not to the exclusion of other things your body needs. Balance is key.

While a very carefully planned raw veggie diet can be taken without any adverse effects on health, there are no real health benefits per se.

Or, at least, none that couldn't be obtained by taking more interest in nutrition and health while still eating meat, maybe with a wider range of vegetables. Meat is a very nutritious foodstuff, and to get all the minerals you need for a balanced diet without meat can be quite difficult, but it is doable. The supposed benefits of a raw veg diet are also somewhat suspect; a wide range of raw vegetables can be healthy, but they don't have to be taken exclusively to have those benefits.
Most of these supposed benefits rely on the fact that meat is unhealthy, which is misleading at best. Some of the most common conceptions is that it is high in cholesterol, which will give you heart disease/hypertension, it makes you fat and that our body isn't adapted to eat meat therefore meaning it can't cope with it very well.

Yes, eating too much meat can make you fat, but so can too much chocolate, meat isn't the only thing that can have such effects. There is as much saturated fat in margarine as there is in butter. Not eating too much meat and doing regular exercise is normally sufficient to prevent ones waistline expanding.
On cholesterol, a high cholesterol is not dangerous by itself, but may reflect an unhealthy condition, or it may be totally innocent. A high blood cholesterol is said to promote atherosclerosis and thus also coronary heart disease. But many studies have shown that people whose blood cholesterol is low become just as arteriosclerosis as people whose cholesterol is high. Besides, your body produces three to four times more cholesterol than you eat. The production of cholesterol increases when you eat little cholesterol and decreases when you eat much, meaning that meat-eaters have no higher levels in the blood. Neither is there any substantial evidence to suggest cholesterol is linked to heart attacks anyway.
We are by nature omnivorous, and that we aren't designed to eat meat isn't true either. While our intestines may be longer than that of a carnivore, that is because we have evolved to eat plants as part of our diet. Our stomach contains Hydrochloric acid and protein splitting enzymes, something not found in herbivores, and neither do we have the ability to digest cellulose. All the evidence suggests we evolved to eat a mixed diet.
The supposed problems of eating meat are generally false, so therefore to suggest that cutting it out of diet can improve your health is also a fallacy. That isn't to say that it would be bad to eat a wide range of raw vegetables.

You can get all the benefits without the worry, by just using proper nutrition. Eat lots of vegetables and eat a little bit of meat and eggs. No processed food. You'll feel great. You won't have to eat bean blends all the time. No need for tofu or fake milk.

You need some protein. Veges Really don't have any protien. Protein in for long term energy. Carbs are short term engergy. Sorry but if you plan on this diet for a long time then it will not be successful. You have to eat some raw pinto beans and etc... and nuts.

Not very healthy. You'll still need the proteins from meat that vegetables lack of.

I think if you ask God to bless your food any diet is good for you. I like a good steak, maybe some fish, a little cheese, some eggs and plenty of veggies.

I don't think it would hurt you to try it and see what it does for you.

Did it for two years and never felt better. I changed to full blown CARNIVORE again last year. I still feel good, but the energy you get from eating raw is AMAZING.

Just be sure you supplement your body with the added vits you need.

Go for it!
