Yes poeple do try and stop it, and you can too, you can compaign with Peta, green peace, RSPCA, just type into google animal cruelty, and find an organisation that feels like you do.
If you feel strongly don't sit back, take a stand. You can even organise your own petitions, and protests in your area.
Its good that you are expressing your opinion, and starting to learn these awful things happen, just keep it legal, and fair.
also, RENE you are obvuiously very religious, that is an entirely different arguement, abortion is not slaughtering, you get your young self pregnant, and mess your life up yeh? But don't preach to a question that wasn't asked yeah?

Pigs are more intelligent than dogs.... I think it is disgusting what they do to them. I have recently become a vegetarian because I am an extreme animal lover and I used to feel so guilty every time I ate meat, but I enjoyed it and it was always easier to just eat it anyway. Eventually I came to the conclusion that by eating meat I am only contributing to the disgusting cruelty and disregard for the rights of animals that goes on every day. Now that I stopped I feel so much better about my life and I am a lot healthier too. Did you know that by being a vegetarian, you alone save 100 animals lives a year! If you want to make a difference, you can only start with yourself. So glad that some other people out there care as much as I do. Cool man..

The best way to stop this sort of thing happening is to withdraw your money from the whole animal farming industry. Become a vegan and ensure that you are not personally responsible for the suffering or death of any animal. One person may not be able to stop all the cruelty, but each person that tries, reduces the number of animals suffering. The more people who boycott producers of animal products and bi-products (such as leather), the more farmers will be forced to look at their methods and reduce production.
It's a tough lifestyle and you have to be careful about dietary health and protein intake, but if you take the right advice, it's a step in the right direction. See http://www.vegansociety.com and http://www.animalaid.org for more details on adopting a cruelty free lifestyle.
Hope this helps.

You know, people do the same thing with other people. You ever heard of circumcision(you think they don't scream)? Anywho since you are such an animal rights activist, I hope you don't wear leather, use glue, wear wool(it's cruel that those poor sheep have to be cold because we don't want to be) God put animals on this earth so that we may be nourished. and not all animals make us fat. :(( cry me a river.

I can understand your pain--it's inhumane to treat animals the way some do. But face it--do you really think you can stop the pork industry? Don't kid yourself by thinking you're one person with enough determination to solve the problem. It may be depressing, but think of all the animals that humane societies help each year. At least we're trying to do SOMETHING. Hang in there. <=)

So how would you like to see how pigs to being reared and slaughtered? Like the poultry and cattle or other animals that slaughtered and used for foods?
Whether rear them in conductive environment; to stun these animals first and than slaughter or by certain religious method is still causing death. Life is Uncertain, Death is...
Not to know is better than knowing...

what you described is factory farming.
you have 2 options:
1) become vegetarian
2) buy organic free range meats, which have more space to roam and some are even given toys. though you must know that they are killed the same way.
