You should discuss this with your doctor.
Sick sinus syndrome, also called Bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome is a group of abnormal heartbeats (arrhythmias) presumably caused by a malfunction of the sinus node, the heart's "natural" pacemaker. Bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome is a variant of sick sinus syndrome where atrial flutter and fibrillation alternate with prolonged periods of asystole.

I dont know if there are other treatments, however dont be scared of the implantation of a pacemaker. I had and ICD implanted in March 2005. The surgery was nothing, the worst part was not being able to move my arm for a few weeks! Its pain free for the most part, and it has helped my heart by leaps and bounds! Mine is both the pacemaker and defibbrillator, and Its truly the best thing I ever did. Good Luck! By the way im 34 and live a relatively normal life with it!

Treatment depends upon how much symptoms the individual is having. Usually most people will need a pacemaker at some point but often can be managed with appropriate medications for a while. Indications for pacemaker typically are passing out, fainting episodes and development of heart failure.
