I used to have severe asthma when I was a child. Then it came to a point that I NEVER used my inhaler. I thought I had grown out of it. Now I'm having episodes of not being able to catch my breath and having bad chest pains. I use the inhaler 1-2 times a day again and it doesn't even seem to help. Can my asthma be coming back now that I'm in my twenties? Should I see a dr?

Yes see your doctor. This happened to me. My doctor said you don't outgrow it - it just doesn't cause symptoms for quite a few years and then when you get a bit older symptoms reappear. It is very important to get your asthma symptoms back under control and use the inhaler only for "rescue". If you use the inhaler all of the time, they become ineffective!

Yes it can and as a matter of fact it can be more severe. It may be something else, so please see a medical professional as soon as possible. If the inhaler is not helping, you need to be seen immediately. You may need more advanced care than you can obtain with the inhaler. You probably need nebulizer treatments or it could be something else all together.

Redeveloping symptoms of your asthma, after no symptoms for years, is not uncommon. You need to see your doctor to evaluate your therapy. There are multiple treatments plans that need to be considered, based on your symptoms, degree of airway impairment, and frequency of symptoms
