I take Claritin and Flonase. Each fall I end up with a sinus infection which eventually turns into a chronic bronchitis, which tends to linger for several months. Chronic cough and hoarseness are common symptoms. Does anyone have any good preventive medications or ideas which I can use to build up my immune system? (I also take 1000 mg. of Vit C each day, plus a multi vitamin.)

sounds to me like you're doing everything you can, the only other option would to be put on a daily, low dose antibiotic (if you're doctor felt it would help) - but since this can cause side effects and lead to bacterial-resistance, it's not the greatest option.

out of curiousity, do you smoke? if you do, this could be why you end up with the respiratory involvement and bronchitis. I'm a smoker, and every time I get a cold or respiratory virus, I end up with bronchitis...smoking can also cause your allergy symtpoms to be worse..if you're not a smoker, never mind!

Keep doing what you're doing, but you may want to try wearing a mask outside when the wind is up and temperature is cooler and get an air-purifier for every room of your home that you spend a lot of time in. Have allergy testing done so that maybe you could avoid being around certain trees or plants that bloom in the fall. Try removing your clothes and showering after you have been outside immediately when coming indoors to remove whatever outside vegetation you may be allergic to prevent spreading it to your furniture, bedding, etc. Good luck

Oh dear, that's no fun!

In addition to the vitamins, clean out the filters to your AC and furnace, try to get an air cleaner, and wear a mask if you say, have to mow the lawn. That's what my husband and I do (we both have mild allergies), and it's saved us a lot of misery.

Another thing you can do is use a damp cloth when you dust around the house: That way the cloth will trap the allergens instead of kicking them back into the air.

Good luck!

Try drinking black coffee. The caffeine helps to alleviate swelling in the bronchials. Adding cream will only add more mucous, and thus make it harder to breathe, as well as stuff you up more.

I have mild asthma, bad seasonal allergies, and suffer from bronchitis now and then, and this has always worked for me.

natural honey from a farm in your area. if you look hard enough you will find one. the honey is produced from the same pollens that are causing you allergies and it builds an immune to them. it works. call your local agriculture dept and they will give you info for finding it.
