WHICH IS BETTER, FEELING LIKE A DOOFUS FOR THINKING IT WAS YOUR HEART, or KEEPING QUIET AND DYING FROM A HEART ATTACK???
Since we now know it's not your heart, I suspect it is your scalene muscles; they are the muscles found on the side of your neck. The ANTERIOR and MIDDLE SCALENES attach to your first rib. If the scalenes are tight, they will pull up the first rib. The problem is, your brachial plexus (group of nerves that go from your neck down to your arm and hand) runs over that rib. So if the rib is lifted upwards, it can irritate those nerves and that can cause arm/hand pain. The scalene muscles themselves can REFER pain down the arm, chest and back (between the shoulder blade and spine on the same side).
Press along the side of your neck on the same side as your arm pain. Keep pressing and maintaining the pressure as you go along the side of your neck, down towards your collar bone. CAN YOU RE-CREATE the same arm and chest pain? If so, there is your answer.

It sounds like something I had. The pain starts by the heart area then it feels like the arm is sort of getting numb or heavy ??? I had it checked out and it was Acid Reflux. I'm not a doctor but I experienced the same type of pains. The doctor put me on Nexium and it eventually healed. How is your diet? Are you eating spicy or fried foods? That would definitely cause it. Other people, sometimes have those type pains and it winds up being indigestion. And no, you shouldn't feel like a doofus...you'll be ok. Hope you feel better.

You're not a doofus for telling your doctor about your chest pain. Chest pain is serious. I've had three angoplastics and four bypasses. I had atypical chest pain and passed all of the tests. The only way the doctor discovered blockages was by doing a heart cath. Listen to your body and you will not go wrong.

Hi,Ive had the same problem. It really sounds like me.Heart pain is in the center of chest,if it was a heart attack and youve had pain for months then you would be dead,so its not a heart attack.Angina is like a small heart attack that doesnt damage the heart but it happends when you excercise and pain goes when you stop.Does that happen to you?
I suffer from COSTOCHONDRITIS which is inflammation of the upper ribs and it can mimick heart pain. The inflammation does radiate down the arms (mostly left) but one way of checking its not your heart is by pressing on your upper chest and see if it hurts. If so its your ribs or muscles that is causing the pain.
Hope i helped. My answer is based on the fact that the pain has lead me to ER twice,Doctors 14 times..loads of tests...and all the time diagnosed with COSTOCHONDRITIS!

Yes, it is possible to pull a muscle in that area. But it's still a good idea to keep an eye on your heart too. With the pain being there, I'm not surprised you thought you were having a heart attack!

I have a condition called mitrocardiaprolaps, and I have the same symptoms. I have sharp pains in my chest, and sometimes it goes down my left arm. It will hurt for about five minutes, and then it goes away. Although I know what mine is, you should still to a cardiologist and get it checked out. It could be a variety of things. Better safe then sorry. Best of luck to you.

I would ask for a referral to a cardiologist - it's your right to have a second opinion. That person can order more extensive tests such as a PET or CT scan.
You might have a completely unrelated condition, such as an ulcer or problems with your gallbladder - which is causing radiating pain into your chest area. Odd, but it can and does happen.

go see another doctor for a second opinion. you may have a small blockage in one of your ateries. This happened to my dad,he had shoulder/chest pain for months...Nothing was showing up on EKG, he had an angiography done and they found 2 blockages. If you find yourself losing your breath then its most likely your heart, if not it is possible that it is a muscle.

It's never stupid to tell your doctor where you hurt. He should do further tests if the ekg didn't show anything. When in doubt about heart trouble, always see a doctor, not a bunch of doofusus like us.
