I have a deviated nose septum. I basically don't have a left nostril internally. I can only breath through one nostril at a time, and whenever my right side closes and my nose wants to breath through the left is when I have minimal air flow. I go into a panic and I'm always gasping for air and yawning literally every 3 minutes or so. This is a method my body developed in order to stop the panic and get oxygen.

Can you get the same amount of air and oxygen through your mouth alone as through your nose? If the answer is yes, then I will try to stop the gasping and yawning.

how old are you exactly? you have a deviated septum, and in all these years of life on planet earth, you weren't intelligent enough to adapt and breathe through your mouth? Is this a serious question? You can get more air through your mouth. Larger hole, more air flow. It will dry you out like the respiratory therapist said. Are you gasping for air while sitting quietly watching tv, or running 5 miles. You yawn to blow off extra carbon dioxide, take some deeper breaths, dude, get your air way fixed by an ear nose and throat doctor. your question makes you sound hypoxic.

The content of o2 in ambient air is 21% regardless of how you breath. Breathing to meet the demands of the body is a different story. For you the difference between breathing through your nose vs mouth is breathing through a straw vs a pipe. The anxiety you feel is natural when air flow is restricted. This is a primitive response, but your brain can interpret the sensation differently and convince your body that breathing is not being threatened. I don't know if this an option for you, but a good ENT could fix your nose, and it is not for cosmetic reasons.

Hope this helps

learning a proper breathing technique through your nose instead of panting with your mouth open I think is what helps You need to learn to take deep, even breaths. Expand your lungs all the way! Breathing through your nose helps to warm the air more and filter it. There is no way to totally avoid the burning feeling after exercise, unless you only do very moderate exercise. I imagine that stretching before/after, and the next day and proper breathing techniques will help though.

Yes you can get just as much air as a mouth breather as breathing through your nose. Those of us with allergies can attest to that. People with colds also must breathe through their mouths at times. You might want to invest in some breath mints for your buddies and then just relax and breathe.

yes you absolutely can. you will probably have some very dry airways (especially your mouth) for your nose serves as your airway's "humidifier". But, yes you will be just fine and will get just as much air through your mouth as you could your nasal passages.
