Here's a little perspective for you...
Would you rather go through a little pain of a swab at the doctor's office or going through surgery to remove dead tissue from a horrible infection?
Sheesh, ask any guy...while it's important to take care of the "boys", you do whatever you can to take care of the "man."

If It bothers you enough to mention it here, you might want to see a physician. If it is an infection, it probably will get worse & feel more uncomfortable over time than a momentary swab of soft cotton in the urethra.
If it is not an infection then you will be fine no matter what you decide. I too once had a similar experience when I was about your age or a bit younger - I was so shy I wouldn't even show my dad! It was not an infection & got better by itself, but there was no pain involved, either, so not exactly the same.

You have a hangup and need to see a shrink! I was circumcised at 18 and can assure you everything they are telling you is total BS! There is no loss of sensitivity and it is not mutilation. Circumcision actually improves sexual function. An uncut guy is basically just masturbating inside his partner, while a circumcised guy gives and receives direct pleasure from his partner. Being circumcised is also much cleaner, I could careless what the antis say, but uncut guys can wash 3x a day and still have an odor. It is also much healthier to be circumcised, uncircumcised males have a 60% higher chance of acquiring HIV and STDs through heterosexual intercourse. It also looks much better, an anteater is not pleasnt to the eye! Being circumcised is so far superior that I had no hesitation to have my 3 boys (5,3,10mo) circumcised, as I know that there is no downside, only a lifetime of benefits. Don't believe the crap the antis post, they are just lies and BS! There is nothing wrong with being circumcised, it is far superior to being an anteater!

It's no big deal that you're a 17 year old virgin. There's a helluva lot of 17 year old virgins, male and female, including those that brag about their sexual prowess. As to what's "wrong" with the tip of your penis, I'd check with an M.D. who can physically look at it. Part of becoming older and becoming a man is that you take the responsibility of taking care of yourself and facing your fears. Who was that President who said, "The only thing you have to fear is fear itself." I think it was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Believe me, as scared as I was a good bit of my life about doctors and hospitals and such, I can assure you, the only thing you have to fear is fear itself. If you knew all the things I had to "endure", such as surgery to remove the lower half of my right leg after being run over by a train years ago, you'd wonder how in hell a scaredy-cat like me did it. Well, when you're run over by a train, it puts things in perspective for you. My son's in the Army in Iraq for the second time, and he used to be scared of doctors, etc., but the Army cured that, and he sees how silly his fears were. You'll still feel the fear a while, but eventually you'll get over it, and you'll one day be taking your own son to the doctor, and he'll be scared, and you'll be telling him how silly that is. Believe me, the doctors ain't near as bad as an untreated illness that can really f' you up. You're becoming a man now, what with being 17. Step up to the plate, as the saying goes. You'll be embarrassed later at how scared you were. Trust me. I'm embarrassed at my own fears of such as well. It's good to see you growing up and becoming a man. God Bless you.

Most likely they will just have you pee in a cup to see if there are any signs of infection in your urine. If there is, they'll put you on antibiotics. They are unlikely to swab you for a slight irritation.

Have you recently changed your soap? Many soaps have perfume or irritants in them that could effect sensitive skin like the opening of your urethra. Try using a nonscented soap. Barring that, see a doctor (I doubt he/she would stick a cotton swab up your penis if you told him/her not too!).

You could still see the doc and refuse the swab. It is not that bad though. He may just recommend some cream.
Put some vitamin E gel on it. Or Aloe Vera.
