Yup. There are over 8 different kinds of herpes. Herpes simplex virus 1 is typically cold sores but it can also cause genital herpes (about 30% of genital herpes cases). Herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes, but can also cause cold sores. Chicken pox is also another member of the herpes family. Check out this site for more information:

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about four yrs ago, whilst I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I realize lots of young women say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl that has sores round her "you know what" area?
