I need to quit for health reasons. I have a friend that must quit because she's had a heart attack and was to given a maximim of 5 years or less to live if she doesn't. With some support from somebody who has been there and done that would be of great value. We need somebody to assist us in this matter immediately, PLEASE!!!

Check out your local hospitals and possibly even a locla YMCA! They have several programs that can help. THIS IS HARD BUT YOU CAN DO IT!!! YOU CAN!!! I tried SO many times, I did everything..the patch, gum, pills, you name it. I was down to my LAST 2 cigarettes and going to get more. My husband was trying to quit at the time. So, I thought well, I'll TRY again. Believe me it was only DETERMINATION, DESIRE AND FEAR of what was happening to my body that wroked this time. I could no longer laugh without coughing. It got to be so embarassing. I smoked for 33 years. I was smoking JUST 1 pack UNDER 2 whole cartons a week!!! EACH WEEK!! I would buy 2 cartons and ALWAYS have 1 pack left. Quit jan. 24, 2001!! and have NEVER put another cigarette in my mouth because I know if I did, that would be it!! Here's what I did, I kept putting off having that cigarette...I kept saying to myself, okay, I will wait another 5 minutes and THEN I will have it. I kept doing that, worked up to telling myself that in an HOUR and so on and so on. I thought I would go crazy but for some reason I would NOT put that cigarette in my mouth, and I wanted to believe me. It was REALLLY hard. But I was so tired of LETTING myself be conrtrolled by tobacco. I also held onto those 2 cigarettes JUST IN CASE but I never smoked them. They are still in this house, kind of like a safety net. Such a long answer, sorry!! Nobody can believe that we both quit smoking...probably especially us. Good luck to you and please don't be toohard on yourself. So many people just do not understand how hard this is to do. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

I used to smoke four packs of cigs per day. I quit cold turkey. But I also picked a date to quit. AND more importantly I picked out a gift for myself (HARLEY Motor cycle) On the day I quit I had my last smoke at 7pm. March 14, 1994. And I opened a bank account for the smoking money. I did not touch this money and one year later I took delivery of my new Harley. Every time I got the urge for a smoke I looked at a picture of a Harley and asked myself which I wanted the Harley or the smoke. I took the Harley. I now smoke cigars. But they are not as bad as you don't inhale them. And I also had a heart attack in Oct of 2000. You really have to put your mind to it. And the urge for a smoke actually passes in literally seconds. Good Luck and hope I have helped ya, even if just a little.

You might try going to a local AA meeing. You will find other folks who had to quit their addictions or die.

Good luck, hope that helps.
