Twice now I have been told uncooked Broccoli has feelings, a nerve center and can feel you chewing it. Has any on else heard this? If it can feel this, it must be able to feel boiling water or steam ect.

oh sure.... broccoli is very sensitive... yet cauliflower won't care at all... now go eat some cauliflower...lol..

It is true that broccoli makes a very high pitched noise when you bite into it, however it is by no means a scream. Within broccoli are microscopic "bubble like" areas that "pop" when you eat them if the broccoli is cooked because the water is boiling inside of them. It's similar to a tea kettle screaming. The same type of thing also happens with lobster, but the air is escaping from underneath their shells. Lobsters don't actually have vocal chords and they can't scream.

I think you need some kind of vocal cords to make sound, last I checked, broccoli did not have any such thing. I would say, no broccoli doesn't scream, unless you're taking acid.

Strangely enough I think it's partially true. I've never heard anything like that BUT I personally think/know that everything that grows is basically alive. So that is kind of true but broccoli isn't a human being so nobody cares I guess.

I think whom ever said this evidently eat meat and is trying to justify their eating of alive animals. So they attack vegans with vegetables. Idiots.. Whom ever said this needs to stay away from drugs and be kept away from earth. They all should be shipped to Pluto the farthest plant so they can develop brain freeze. Freeze all goofs HOO-RAY

You are so sweet for caring about vegetables' feelings. Anyway, they may have some kind of primitive nervous system but it is not clear for the science if you can hurt their feelings or cause them pain by calling them not tasty..

lol no not at all! it's not an animal, it's a plant. it has no brain or central nervous system. it's no different from eating any other plant like corn or carrots or potatoes. now lobsters, on the other hand, are a different story...
