If you are an expert at cooking ethnic food it would be greatly appriciated if you could give me a few pointers! I am tired of going out to eat and having to pay so much for a meal. Any tips would be a great help or your favorite recipe! Thank you!

I come from an ethnic family. The only way to TRUELY learn how to cook a specific heritage's food is to cook with someone of that heritage who has been doing it for a long time. As with any excellent dish, recipes are not always the best. Many American's think that food is cooked in specific measurements. For an excellent dish everything added will be "to taste". If you know anyone from that heritage that cooks ask if you can get a lesson or two from them. Don't get frusterated...we don't measure ANYTHING. And one more pointer: No matter what heritage you are, the grandmothers are ALWAYS the best cooks. After all...they have been doing it the longest. If you can get a lesson from a grandmother, you will be well on your way!

I think one of the best approaches to "ethnic" cooking is to do your own research on 1: The culture 2: The ingredients they use and why they use them...What ingredients are available ?(regionally, nationally, culturally) How are they used?

The next step would be to concentrate on a few dishes that you like to eat and would like to learn how to cook them. Look up various recipes and give it a try. You can do it!

It depends upon what type of food you wish to make. Ethnic food just means that it is central to a certain people. There are many books out that are devoted to one type of food: Italian, French, German, Chinese, etc. Pick one you like and get to cooking!
